One of my all time favorite book series is The Winter Series by Joanne Demaio. I look forward to reading them every year! HERE is a blog post I wrote 2 years ago all about the first 3 books in the series. I’ll write a post during Blogmas all about where I’m at in the series, my thoughts, etc.
She announced last year that a new Winter book was going to be released THIS FALL (Book #7 in the series)! I have been not so patiently waiting for it’s release and ran to Barnes and Noble a few days after it’s release.
From Instagram:
Spoiler: They didn’t have it.
Aaaaand just a few hours later, LOOK WHAT HAPPENED! Joanne Demaio saw my Instastory and offered to send me a copy of her newest book!
From Instagram:
The Most Perfect Book Mail
And then just 3 days later, look what came in the mail:
Perfection. That book cover, omg. STUNNING.
Ahhhh I can’t WAIT to read this one! I usually start reading holiday books at the beginning of November but I’m thinking I may need to start even a little earlier this year. I don’t want to write the synopsis here because while these ARE stand alone novels, it’s definitely best to read them in order (crossover characters, places, etc.)
Thank you so much for your kindness, Joanne. This book series is so special to me and you just made it even MORE special 🙂
My beautiful collection of all of the books in this series (in order!)
Seriously…how GORGEOUS are these covers?!
Have you read any of these adorable books? What did you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

My Heart is With Israel and aBook Review: Drowning {T.J. Newman}
It’s been so awful watching from such a distance as the horror has been unfolding in Israel. My heart hurts.
It’s felt wrong and weird to continue blogging throughout all that is happening. As a Jewish person, I can’t even put into words how terrifying and heartbreaking all of this is.
Blogging is something that I do for a fun, creative hobby and it has felt too weird (and wrong?) to work on my writing my little blog when my mind and my heart are both so currently distracted.
That being said, writing this blog also provides such a wonderful distraction for me…as do reading books. I’ve always said that books can be the perfect cure when you need your mind to focus on something else.
Like me, I know that many of YOU also use books as a distraction and as an escape. I feel helpless in this entire situation but if I can help distract you or take your mind off of scary things even for a little bit by simply recommending books…that’s something I can do. Books are magic and can instantly transport you to completely different places, time periods, and even people if you let them in.
So back to blogging and recommending books it is…for me, for you, for us 🙂
**Head over to Book Coffee Happy’s Instagram account and watch my current Instastory for more of my thoughts on all of this…This morning I posted 8 minutes of me talking all about it…**
Now I WILL admit, I wish I had spent the past week reading something….anything….more uplifting than this book, lol. HOWEVER, this book was so amazing that I legit was completely absorbed while reading which was actually the most perfect distraction for me. This book is INTENSE. Like heart pounding intense. It’s AWESOME.
Goodreads Synopsis ofDrowning {T.J. Newman}:
Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doors—but it’s too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside.
More than two hundred feet below the surface, engineer Will Kent and his eleven-year-old daughter Shannon are waist-deep in water and fighting for their lives.
Their only chance at survival is an elite rescue team on the surface led by professional diver Chris Kent—Shannon’s mother and Will’s soon-to-be ex-wife—who must work together with Will to find a way to save their daughter and rescue the passengers from the sealed airplane, which is now teetering on the edge of an undersea cliff.
There’s not much time.
There’s even less air.
My Review ofDrowning {T.J. Newman}:
If you haven’t yet read T.J. Newman’s debut novel, Falling, you must read that book ASAP. It’s AMAAAAAZING (book synopsis and my review here).
I’ve been so excited to get my hands on her newest book, Drowning, and let me tell you…it most definitely did NOT disappoint.
HOLY. HELL.
My heart was legit pounding while reading this book. I smiled. I cried (tears down both cheeks). I held my breath. It was intense and crazy and amazing and awesome.
If you are someone afraid of flying, this might not be the best choice for you…I might never get on another plane for the rest of my life after reading this…but if you can handle this topic, READ THIS BOOK.
Were parts of it a bit too technical? Yes. Did I have to Google a vast amount of aviation terms? Yes. Was all of that worth it to help me better understand this heart pounding book? HELL YES.
I really didn’t think I could love her second book as much as I loved her first but I really, really did. By the way, both books are stand alone novels…they not a series. You can read either one first. And you should definitely read them both…STAT.
The movie rights for this book have already been sold and OMG it will make such an amazing movie (the movie rights for her first book, Falling, have also been sold and that will ALSO be an incredible movie). I’m not a huge movie fan but I can’t WAIT to see both of these! I can only imagine seeing all of this on the big screen in a dark room…my heart is pounding just thinking about it…
Book Coffee Happy Epilogue:
READ. THIS. BOOK. Just not while you are on an airplane or have plans to be on one anytime soon 😉
Have you read this book? What did you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
Sending love and peace to all…

Typecast Giveaway Winner Video is at the bottom of this post 🙂
Book I’m Currently Reading:
I have been waiting for months to get my hands on a copy of TJ Newman’s latest book, Drowning.
I absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED her first book, Falling…if you haven’t read Falling, it’s a must read! Here is a link to my review (and the synopsis) of Falling. I can’t wait to dig into her newest book, Drowning!

Coffee I’m Currently Drinking:
So I do drink from him from time to time year round but I CONTINUOUSLY drink from him during this time of year. He’s so weird and creepy and perfect and he makes my coffee taste even more delightful. I love him so.
Currently Making Me Happy:
IT’S FALL YA’LL!!!!!!
Ahhh I love this time of year SO, SO FREAKING MUCH! Bring on all the spooky, scary, fall vibes!!
It was 85 degrees when I took this picture 2 days ago. COME ON, CHILLY WEATHER! This picture would be so much more aesthetic if I was wearing a cozy sweater, flannel shirt, or warm hoodie.
Fun Fact: As I was snapping this selfie of myself, a kind security guard came over and asked if I would like for him to take a picture of me. I said yes…but I wasn’t prepared for him to then loudly say, “OK NOW STRIKE A POSE”. So I striked a pose while laughing. An impromptu photoshoot with a stranger??? LOVED IT! People were looking. It was awkward and awesome. I’m choosing NOT to put that photo on the Internet but you get the idea…

Book Giveaway (Open to International Readers): Typecast {Andrea J. Stein}
Ahhhh I’m SO excited to be able to share this gem with you today! I absolutely loved this book and I so highly recommend it…
Goodreads Synopsis of Typecast (Andrea J. Stein):
Callie Dressler thought she had put her past where it belonged—behind her. But when she learns her ex-boyfriend is bringing their breakup to the big screen, she must face the fact that their history has been looming over her all along.
At thirty-two, Callie Dressler is finally comfortable in her own skin. She loves her job as a preschool teacher, and although living in her vacant childhood home isn’t necessarily what dreams are made of, the space is something she never could have afforded if she’d stayed in New York City. She knows her well-ordered life will be upended when her type A, pregnant sister, Nina; adorable four-year-old niece; and workaholic brother-in-law move in, but how could she say no when they needed a place to crash during their remodel? As Nina pointed out, it is still their parents’ house, even though their mom and dad have relocated.
As if adjusting to this new living situation isn’t enough, the universe sends Callie another wrinkle: her college boyfriend, Ethan—who Callie dumped ten years earlier for reasons known only to her—has a film coming out, and the screenplay is based on their real-life breakup. While the movie consumes her thoughts, Callie can’t help wondering if Nina and her friends are right that she hasn’t moved on. When a complication with Nina’s pregnancy brings Callie in close contact with Nina’s smart and funny architect, Callie realizes she had better figure out whether she wants to open the door to the past—or she’ll risk missing out on her future.
My Thoughts on Typecast {Andrea J. Stein} :
Absolutely loved it.
These characters and their relationships with each other were so detailed and wonderfully written. To see those relationships (and their perspectives) change over time was so interesting to read! I loved the dual timelines as they were able to come together to eventually tell the whole story. I had some pretty strong predictions very early on as to where this story was going to go and I am happy to report that I was WRONG! I absolutely love when that happens….when a book can go in a completely different direction than the reader was thinking that it would.
The writing in this book was great and so easy to follow…I often read more in one sitting that I was intending to because I was so into the storylines! A sign of a wonderful book! What a fantastic debut novel she has written.
The character development was GREAT. I felt like I really “knew” these people! It was hard to “say good-bye” to them when I finished reading this book. I would so love for there to be a sequel…??
A Conversation With Andrea J. Stein, in Her Own Words:
What inspired you to write Typecast?
The story was inspired when I heard about a guy who made a short film about his college girlfriend, ten years after graduation. It got me wondering how that girlfriend would feel if she knew she was the subject of a film so many years later. From there, I started thinking about who that woman would be – would she be single or married? Why did the college relationship end? That was how Typecast was born.
What was the most fun part of writing Typecast?
That’s a tough question! I had fun getting to know my characters, and I definitely enjoyed spooling out the romance part of the story. I also had fun writing the children in the book – some of whose remarks just may have come from my own kids!
Without giving away spoilers, what are some takeaway messages that you hope readers will gain from reading Typecast?
One big message is about forgiveness – and especially self-forgiveness. It’s so important to recognize, and truly internalize, that the choices you made in the past were probably the best ones you could make at the time – with the information you had, and who you were as a person.
Where can your book be purchased?
Like they say, anywhere books are sold. It’s available at all online booksellers, and any brick-and-mortar bookstore can order it for you if they don’t already have it on their shelves.
Any additional information that you would like to provide about you or your book:
Bringing my debut novel into the world was an amazing experience, and I have so much gratitude for all my readers. Stay tuned for my next novel!

There’s a cottage on a cliff. Gabe and Pippa’s dream home in a sleepy coastal town. But their perfect house hides something sinister. The tall cliffs have become a popular spot for people to end their lives. Night after night Gabe comes to their rescue, literally talking them off the ledge. Until he doesn’t.
When Pippa discovers Gabe knew the victim, the questions spiral…Did the victim jump? Was she pushed?
And would Gabe, the love of Pippa’s life, her soulmate…lie? As the perfect facade of their marriage begins to crack, the deepest and darkest secrets begin to unravel.
My Review ofThe Soulmate {Sally Hepworth}:
Eh.
I couldn’t connect to ANY of the characters at ANY time of this book which made it hard to care what happened to any of them.
While I found the bits about their marriages interesting, I absolutely hated the bits about the businesses, investors, etc. Unfortunately, this was a major part of the book!
AND there was one pretty big storyline that was never really explained…I waited the entire book to find out more about it! I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t go into detail but I can’t imagine I’m the only reader who wanted more storyline about this…
There WAS a twist that I did NOT see coming which is always fun but overall? Eh.
The best part of this book were the insanely short chapters…some were 1 or 2 pages long! I love that so much, I flew through this book. I really do wish every book could be written in short chapters such as this.
2 Sally Hepworth books that are worth reading over The Soulmate: THIS ONE and THIS ONE.
Book Coffee Happy Epilogue:
She’s written better books.

Library Book #1: The Mothers {Jennifer Gilmore}
Goodreads Synopsis of The Mothers {Jennifer Gilmore}:
Jesse and Ramon are a loving couple, but after years spent unsuccessfully trying to get pregnant, they turn to adoption, relieved to think that once they navigate the bureaucratic path to parent-hood they will have a happy ending. But nothing has prepared them for the labyrinthine process—for the many training sessions and approvals; for the constant advice from friends, strangers, and “experts”; for the birthmothers who contact them but don’t ultimately choose them; or even, most shockingly, for the women who call claiming they’ve chosen Jesse and Ramon but who turn out never to have been pregnant in the first place.
Library Book #2: Prom Mom {Laura Lippman}
Goodreads Synopsis of Prom Mom {Laura Lippman}:
Amber Glass has spent her entire adult life putting as much distance as possible between her and her hometown of Baltimore, where she fears she will forever be known as “Prom Mom”–the girl who allegedly killed her baby on the night of the prom after her date, Joe Simpson, abandoned her to pursue the girl he really liked. But when circumstances bring Amber back to the city, she realizes she can have a second chance–as long as she stays away from Joe, now a successful commercial real estate developer, married to a plastic surgeon, Meredith, to whom he is devoted.
The problem is, Amber can’t stay away from Joe. And Joe finds that it’s increasingly hard for him to ignore Amber, if only because she remembers the boy he was and the man he said he was going to be. Against the surreal backdrop of 2020 and early 2021, the two are slowly drawn to each other and eventually cross the line they’ve been trying not to cross.
And then Joe asks Amber to help him do the unthinkable…
Library Book #3: Big Swiss {Jen Beagin}
Goodreads Synopsis of Big Swiss {Jen Beagin}:
Greta lives with her friend Sabine in an ancient Dutch farmhouse in Hudson, New York. She spends her days transcribing therapy sessions for a sex coach who calls himself Om. She becomes infatuated with his newest client, a repressed married woman she affectionately refers to as Big Swiss, since she’s tall, stoic, and originally from Switzerland. They both have dark histories, but Big Swiss chooses to remain unattached to her suffering while Greta continues to be tortured by her past.
One day, Greta recognizes Big Swiss’s voice at the dog park. In a panic, she introduces herself with a fake name and they quickly become enmeshed. Although Big Swiss is unaware of Greta’s true identity, Greta has never been more herself with anyone.
Bold, outlandish, and filled with irresistible characters, Big Swiss is both a love story and also a deft examination of infidelity, mental health, sexual stereotypes, and more—from an amazingly talented, one-of-a-kind voice in contemporary fiction.
Library Book #4: Stone Cold Fox {Rachel Koller Croft}
Goodreads Synopsis of Stone Cold Fox {Rachel Koller Croft}:
Like any enterprising woman, Bea knows what she’s worth and is determined to get all she deserves—it just so happens that what she deserves is to marry rich. After a lifetime of forced instruction in the art of swindling men by her mother, Bea wants nothing more than to escape her shadow, close the door on their sordid past, and disappear safely into old-money domesticity.
When Bea finds her final mark in the perfectly dull blue-blooded Collin, she’s ready to deploy all her tricks one last time. The challenge isn’t getting the ring, but rather the approval of Collin’s family and everyone else in their tax bracket, particularly his childhood best friend Gale. Going toe-to-toe with Gale isn’t a threat to an expert like Bea, but what begins as an amusing cat-and-mouse game quickly develops into a dangerous chase. As the truth of Bea’s past threatens to come roaring out, she finds herself racing against the clock to pass the finish line before everything is exposed.

BOOK (AND BOOK SWAG) GIVEAWAY: What You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein}
**What You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein} will be published on October 17, 2023. There is a link at the bottom of this post to preorder yourself a copy. I was fortunate enough to receive an early copy…and I have another early copy to give away to a lucky reader!**
This is the 4th book of Rochelle Weinstein’s that I have read. Here are my reviews of the other 3 books (Spoiler: loved them all):
As much as I adored her other 3 books, this one is HANDS DOWN my favorite.
Is this cover not STUNNING?!
Goodreads Synopsis ofWhat You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein}:
From the bestselling author of This Is Not How It Ends comes a moving novel of two unfinished love stories and the music and lyrics that bring them together.
Journalist Cecilia James is a sucker for a love song. So when she stumbles across a clue to the identity of the muse for one of rock’s greatest, she devotes herself to uncovering the truth, even as her own relationship is falling apart.
While writing an article for Rolling Stone, Cecilia works to reveal the mystery that has intrigued fans and discovers a classic tale of two soulmates separated by fate and circumstance. Rock star Eddie Vee once sang with his soul, dedicating love songs to Sara Friedman, his inspiration and first love. Now, Eddie takes refuge in anonymity, closed off to the past. Sara, too, has distanced herself from their love, moving thousands of miles away to live the life she once railed against. As Eddie and Sara tentatively open up to Cecilia about broken dreams, she struggles to give them a happy ending. In the process, she learns that broken hearts can be healed—even her own.
What You Do To Me is the story of a love song and of the triumph of the heart over the greatest of odds. Even for those who have written off love forever.
My Review ofWhat You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein}:
Oh this beautiful book…
The characters, the settings, THE MUSIC. I might never be able to listen to a song again without wondering who it was written for and the story behind it.
There are so many storylines in this book ranging from past to present and all of them came together to tell such an amazingly beautiful story. Everything is written with such depth and such heart.
The creativity is took to write a story like this..taking a modern song (a song which I have always LOVED by the way) and creating a different time AND different people all contributing to it’s beautiful lyrics all the while connecting different storylines to come together in such. a special and unique way?? Amazing.
My plans of getting a manicure prior to Rosh Hashanah dinner were foiled by the fact that I couldn’t put this book down and spent the entire day reading. I didn’t even remember that my nails looked like this until I was walking out the door. Lovely.
I smiled, I cried (tears streaming down both cheeks), I hummed song lyrics, I loved this whole book. I never wanted it to end! I felt so connected to these characters and their stories. This book is so BEAUTIFULLY written.
Love you, Rochelle 🙂
Book Coffee Happy Epilogue:
Loved every single word…and song lyric.

Audiobook Review: The Wife Upstairs {Freida McFadden}
Love this.
**NOTE**
This book is not to be confused with The Wife Upstaris by Rachel Hawkins. Same title, completely different book. You can read my review of Rachel Hawkins’s book HERE.
This is the 6th Freida McFadden book that I have listened to! Here are my reviews of the other 5 books of hers that I have read (listened to…all audiobooks):
A great career. A handsome and loving husband. A beautiful home in the suburbs and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfect—or so it seems.
Then she’s in a terrible accident… and everything falls apart.
Now Victoria is unable to walk. She can’t feed or dress herself. She can’t even speak. She is confined to the top floor of her house with twenty-four-hour care.
Sylvia Robinson is hired by Victoria’s husband to help care for her. But it turns out Victoria isn’t as impaired as Sylvia was led to believe. There’s a story Victoria desperately wants to tell… if only she could get out the words.
Then Sylvia discovers Victoria’s diary hidden away in a drawer.
And what’s inside is shocking.
My Review ofThe Wife Upstairs {Freida McFadden}
Eh.
So I liked it and looked forward to listening to it each day. The story definitely held my interest and was great to listen to as an audiobook.
It’s just…it’s all been done before. The whole story. I can’t really say much without giving away some pretty big spoilers but every twist…been there, done that.
I’ve listened to and gave read so many psychological thrillers that by this point…nothing about this one was shocking. A few tiny twists but I truly saw all of the big ones from the very beginning.
And don’t even get me started on how this book is basically a direct copy of another VERY popular psychological thriller…I won’t say which one but I really don’t need to. If you read this book, you’ll just KNOW.
And the ending of this book was…confusing and yet predictable. Eh.
Book Coffee Happy Epilogue:
Kept me entertained but entirely too predictable.

1 Abby Jimenez Book That I Loved and 1 Abby Jimenez Book That I Did NOT Love
We have a season pass to the Six Flags amusement park here in IL which is verrrrrry conveniently located right by a Dunkin’ drive thru. That drive thru has somehow become part of our visit on our way home each time! Being outside in the heat riding roller coasters all day calls for an iced coffee…I simply can’t handle hot coffee on these HOT roller coaster days!
***These are reviews of books #2 and #3 in The Friend Zone series! Definitely start by reading book #1 before reading either of these books. You can read all about book #1 (including the book synopsis, my review, and a picture of a cake shaped like a vagina) HERE.***
The Friend Zone Book #2: The Happily After Playlist {Abby Jimenez}
Goodreads Synopsis of The Happily Ever After Playlist {Abby Jimenez}
Two years after losing her fiancé, Sloan Monroe still can’t seem to get her life back on track. But one trouble-making pup with a “take me home” look in his eyes is about to change everything. With her new pet by her side, Sloan finally starts to feel more like herself. Then, after weeks of unanswered texts, Tucker’s owner reaches out. He’s a musician on tour in Australia. And bottom line: He wants Tucker back.
Well, Sloan’s not about to give up her dog without a fight. As their flirty texts turn into long calls, Sloan can’t deny a connection. There’s no telling what could happen when they meet in person. The question is: With his music career on the rise, how long will Jason really stick around? And is it possible for Sloan to survive another heartbreak?
My Review of The Happily Ever After Playlist {Abby Jimenez}
Loved it! It’s adorable. The characters, the storylines, all of it…adorable. Totally held my interest enough to breeze right through it just so I could continue on with the series. I wasn’t surprised that I loved it considering how much I loved the first one in this series! Abby Jimenez has a great writing style, I’m a big fan.
So alllll of that being said….
Man, did I NOT enjoy book #3….
The Friend Zone Book #2: Life’s Too Short {Abby Jimenez}
Even reading this book during a beautiful vacation wasn’t enough to make me enjoy it.
Goodreads Synopsis ofLife’s Too Short {Abby Jimenez}:
A brilliant and touching romantic comedy about two polar opposites, one adorable dog, and living each day to its fullest.
When Vanessa Price quit her job to pursue her dream of traveling the globe, she wasn’t expecting to gain millions of YouTube followers who shared her joy of seizing every moment. For her, living each day to its fullest isn’t just a motto. Her mother and sister never saw the age of 30, and Vanessa doesn’t want to take anything for granted.
But after her half-sister suddenly leaves Vanessa in custody of her infant daughter, life goes from “daily adventure” to “next-level bad” (now with bonus baby vomit in hair). The last person Vanessa expects to show up offering help is the hot lawyer next door, Adrian Copeland. After all, she barely knows him. No one warned her that he was the Secret Baby Tamer or that she’d be spending a whole lot of time with him and his geriatric Chihuahua.
Now she’s feeling things she’s vowed not to feel. Because the only thing worse than falling for Adrian is finding a little hope for a future she may never see.
My Review ofLife’s Too Short {Abby Jimenez}:
Aaaaaand I didn’t finish it. I read 200 pages and then…I was OUT. And those 200 pages took my significantly longer to read than they should have.
It wasn’t bad, not at all! It was just…completely character driven (which I hate, give me a plot driven book anyday over character driven). So many thoughts, so many feelings, so much drama, so much backstory, just so, so much…eh.
Was it peppered with adorable banter? Yes. Was it sprinkled with adorable situations? Absolutely. Was it enough to keep me reading? Nope.
I loved the first 2 books in this series but this one was a miss for me. I will most likely read the next 2: Part of Your World and Truly Yours…I just need a bit of a breather first. I’ve heard both are wonderful!
Not sure what’s worse…this book or my manicure?

This gigantic zucchini has absolutely nothing to do with this blog post but it’s insane and deserves a permanent spot on the Internet.
This is my 5th Freida Mcfadden audiobook that I’ve listened to. I went into it assuming it would be like the others…not the BEST psychological thrillers out there…but definitely GOOD. Like, easy to listen to while doing other things, easy to follow the stories, etc. Here are my thoughts on the 4 other Freida Mcfadden audiobooks I’ve listened to:
And now…my 5th Freida Mcfadden book. The one with the most annoying narrator of all time:
Goodreads Synopsis ofThe Locked Door {Freida Mcfadden}:
Some doors are locked for a reason…
While eleven-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.
Until the day the police arrived at their front door.
Decades later, Nora’s father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.
Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.
Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she’s not a killer like her father. The police can’t pin anything on her.
As long as they don’t look in her basement.
Most Annoying Audiobook Voice
I never even got to determine if I liked the story or if it was well written because…THAT. VOICE. It was AWFUL. I can’t even describe it…like an old fashioned detective type voice? Does that even make sense? Like a cartoon? I truly can’t describe that voice….like every word she said had such an intense tone. Terrible.
I talked a bit about this on Instagram saying that there are definitely certain voices (accents, etc.) that I prefer while listening to audiobooks but I’ve NEVER had to stop listening purely due to the voice of the narrator. Until this book. Made it exactly 15% before I was DONE. I could not handle that voice for even 1 second longer.
Have you listened to this book? What did you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Jenny
I’m assuming the book is a significantly better choice than the audiobook. The only narrator will be the lovely voice inside of your own head!
