Audiobook Review: The Teacher {Freida McFadden}

Audiobook Review: The Teacher {Freida McFadden}

My son’s baseball season has officially started! Alwaaaaaaaays with the Dunkin’ next to me, lol.

Freida McFadden released a brand new book 3 days before my jury duty summons was to begin??? Fate.

This was actually 1 of the 2 audiobooks I listened to as I drove downtown bright and early each morning during jury duty! And then again as I crawled back home each night because downtown Chicago traffic is insane. Thank goodness for audiobooks (and coffee…so much coffee) to kept me company and entertained on some of those VERY long commutes! Everyone in the cars around me looked so annoyed and I was happy as a clam 🙂

The Teacher is actually the 8th Freida McFadden audiobook I’ve listened to. Here are links to my thoughts on the other 7!

The Surrogate Mother

The Inmate

Do Not Disturb

Want to Know a Secret?

The Locked Door (AKA The Most ANNOYING Audiobook Voice)

The Wife Upstairs

The Coworker

Goodreads Synopsis of The Teacher {Freida McFadden}:

Lesson #1: Trust no one.

Eve has a good life. She wakes up each day, kisses her husband Nate, and heads off to teach math at the local high school. All is as it should be. Except…

Last year, Caseham High was rocked by a scandal involving a student-teacher affair, with one student, Addie, at its center. But Eve knows there is far more to these ugly rumors than meets the eye.

Addie can’t be trusted. She lies. She hurts people. She destroys lives. At least, that’s what everyone says.

But nobody knows the real Addie. Nobody knows the secrets that could destroy her. And Addie will do anything to keep it quiet…

My Review of The Teacher {Freida McFadden}:

I really love Freida McFadden audiobooks. Perfect for background noise as I’m doing other things (such as driving). The stories are always juuuuust simple enough where I don’t have to be 100 percent focused on not doing anything else while listening! I was super excited that my long commute coincided PERFECTLY with a brand new Freida McFadden release. A long commute was the PERFECT time to enjoy this one. And enjoy it I did!

One of my favorites of hers yet. This one was great and kept me guessing the whole time. The story was interesting (I’m a former teacher so of course I found those parts interesting) and the characters were great. I won’t give anything away but I will say that the ending was AWESOME. That’s all I will say about that!

Book Coffee Happy Epilogue:

The book itself was really good but that ending was FANTASTIC.

Disney, Covid, and The Book I’m Not Reading

Disney, Covid, and The Book I’m Not Reading

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you all had a lovely end to your holiday season and a wonderful start to 2024!

When I last left you, it was the final day of Blogmas! I absolutely loved participating in Blogmas again and I’ve already started working on Blogmas 2024 🙂

Disney

Disney World was amazing!! We saw it all, we did it all, we ate it all. All 4 parks, all the best rides, fireworks, parade, Disney Springs…all of it. So much fun! I learned a RIDICULOUS amount on this trip and at some point I want to make another video of all of my tips and tricks. Hopefully I can film that soon before Disney goes and makes changes as they always seem to be doing!

Disney was awesome and then Daytona Beach was beautiful. We took a dinner boat cruise, played in the ocean, took an airboat tour through the swamp, held an alligator (!), swam in the pool, relaxed in the hot tub, and so much more.

And then the night before our flight back home…

I got Covid.

Fucking Covid

Well shit.

I found this random blurry picture on my camera roll as I was looking through finding pictures for this post! Longest drive home ever.

I spent New Year’s Eve quarantined in our bedroom while my family celebrated together downstairs. It was lonely and I fell asleep somewhere around 10:00…but when the fireworks woke me at midnight, I was able to yell Happy New Year to my family from my bed. No midnight kisses for me!

Thankfully I’m now feeling 100 percent back to normal and can finally find some time to sit down to work on my little blog. I have some fun things planned for Book Coffee Happy in 2024 and I’m ready to GOOOOO!

What I’m Reading

I started listening to this audiobook last week! Aaaaaaand about an hour and a half in, I stopped listening to it. Just not for me. No real thoughts other than the story just didn’t grab me and I HATED the audiobook narrators voices so much. Combine those reasons aaaaaand….moving on. I had actually checked out the book from the library but then started listening to the audiobook version of it before I sat down to read it!

Goodreads Synopsis of The List {Yomi Adegoke}:

Ola Olajide, a celebrated journalist at Womxxxn magazine, is set to marry the love of her life in one month’s time. Young, beautiful, and successful—she and her fiancé Michael are considered the “couple goals” of their social network and seem to have it all. That is, until one morning when they both wake up to the same message: “Oh my god, have you seen The List?”

It began as a crowdsourced collection of names and somehow morphed into an anonymous account posting allegations on social media. Ola would usually be the first to support such a list—she’d retweet it, call for the men to be fired, write article after article. Except this time, Michael’s name is on it.

Compulsively readable, wildly entertaining, and filled with sharp social insight, The List is a piercing and dazzlingly clear-sighted debut about secrets, lies, and the internet. Perfect for fans of Such a Fun Age, Luster, and My Dark Vanessa, this is a searing portrait of these modern times and our morally complicated online culture.

***SIDE NOTE: This synopsis compares this book to My Dark Vanessa…ummmm no. My Dark Vanessa is AWESOME. Read my review (including the book synopsis HERE).***

Most Annoying Audiobook Voice.

Most Annoying Audiobook Voice.

This gigantic zucchini has absolutely nothing to do with this blog post but it’s insane and deserves a permanent spot on the Internet.

This is my 5th Freida Mcfadden audiobook that I’ve listened to. I went into it assuming it would be like the others…not the BEST psychological thrillers out there…but definitely GOOD. Like, easy to listen to while doing other things, easy to follow the stories, etc. Here are my thoughts on the 4 other Freida Mcfadden audiobooks I’ve listened to:

The Surrogate Mother

The Inmate

Do Not Disturb

Want to Know a Secret?

And now…my 5th Freida Mcfadden book. The one with the most annoying narrator of all time:

Goodreads Synopsis of The Locked Door {Freida Mcfadden}:

Some doors are locked for a reason…

While eleven-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora’s father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.

Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she’s not a killer like her father. The police can’t pin anything on her.

As long as they don’t look in her basement.

Most Annoying Audiobook Voice

I never even got to determine if I liked the story or if it was well written because…THAT. VOICE. It was AWFUL. I can’t even describe it…like an old fashioned detective type voice? Does that even make sense? Like a cartoon? I truly can’t describe that voice….like every word she said had such an intense tone. Terrible.

I talked a bit about this on Instagram saying that there are definitely certain voices (accents, etc.) that I prefer while listening to audiobooks but I’ve NEVER had to stop listening purely due to the voice of the narrator. Until this book. Made it exactly 15% before I was DONE. I could not handle that voice for even 1 second longer.
