My daughter has had Covid for the past week! She’s thankfully feeling much better and as of yesterday is finally allowed to leave her bedroom (masked of course) and rejoin the world. My husband, my son, and myself all feel great and keep testing negative…fingers crossed it stays that way! I’m drinking my coffee out of this mug (my 2020 souvenir) today because it’s been a loooooong week in our house!

What Are You Currently Reading?

As I was nearing the end of finishing Things We Never Got Over, I put a poll on Instagram yesterday asking which of these 2 books should be my next read and here are the results from all of YOU:

I started reading The Perfect Neighborhood last night and I’m currently 60 pages in…I’ll post my review when I finish reading!

***Well, this post is now outdated and insignificant but since I already wrote it, I wanted to publish it! I ended up writing the majority of this post, taking a break to read chapter 1 of Verity, aaaaaand then I read that entire book in a little over 24 hours. HOLY. HELL.

What Are You Currently Reading?

I just finished reading this one this morning and my thoughts on it are ALL over the place. Some good, some…not. I’ll share my full review in a blog post ASAP! Instagram followers, this would be the book that I was reading without revealing it’s title so nobody would spoil any of it for me!

The library attached the cover on this hardcover book so poorly and the fact that it’s not centered makes my type A body TWITCHY.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

This book has been on my list for MONTHS…I’m finally reading it! I have a love/hate relationship with Colleen Hoover books so I’m excited to see how I feel about this one (if you are looking for a great CoHo book, HERE is a link to one that I loved)!

I’ve heard Varity is INTENSE…but pleeeeease don’t tell me anything more than that! If you follow me on Instagram, you have been listening to me rant about all of the people that have been recently unknowingly spoiling books for me. UGH. A simple “I loved it”, “I hated it’, etc. is perfection! When reading a blog review, you know you are reading a more in depth review of the book (although I NEVER post spoilers in my reviews) but when someone asks not to be told ANYTHING about a book…please, please for the love of GOD respect that 😉

What Are You Currently Reading?

Amanda and Clay head out to a remote corner of Long Island expecting a vacation: a quiet reprieve from life in New York City, quality time with their teenage son and daughter, and a taste of the good life in the luxurious home they’ve rented for the week. But a late-night knock on the door breaks the spell. Ruth and G. H. are an older black couple—it’s their house, and they’ve arrived in a panic. They bring the news that a sudden blackout has swept the city. But in this rural area—with the TV and internet now down, and no cell phone service—it’s hard to know what to believe.

Should Amanda and Clay trust this couple—and vice versa? What happened back in New York? Is the vacation home, isolated from civilization, a truly safe place for their families? And are they safe from one another?

I read 5 pages and called it quits. 5 PAGES! It’s like the author had a thesaurus next to him while writing and kept interjecting massive words just to make his writing sound more interesting. I just couldn’t do it. I’m disappointed because I think the synopsis sounds incredible! I just couldn’t get past the unnecessary monstrously descriptive words. Ugh. Example from page 2 where the main character describes the smell of his children:

“To mitigate all this Archie sprayed a chemical into the thatch under his arms, a smell unlike any in nature, a focus groups’ consensus of the masculine ideal. Rose paid better attention. The shadow of a young girl in flower: a bloodhound might find the metal beneath the whiff of entry-level cosmetics, the pubescent predilection for fake apples and cherries.”

Now I have a pretty extensive vocabulary and clearly I spend a vast amount of my time with my nose in a book…but…this writing was just too much for me. 300 pages of this? No thank you. Couldn’t even make it to page 6!

Have any of you read this book? I think it sounds great…as long as you have a thesaurus next to you while reading, lol.

Oh man…I’m not sure! I have a bunch of books sitting here but unfortunately none are calling my name. Ugh. I think my weekend plans might just need to include a trip to my local library!

This is the second book that I’ve read by Becky Albertalli. I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED What If It’s Us! If you haven’t yet read that book, I highly recommend that you do. You can read it’s synopsis and my glowing review of it HERE. Based upon that book, I have high expectations for Simon Vs The Homo Sapians Agenda! I’ll post a full review once I finish reading.

So this is a bit up in the air. If I end up loving Simon Vs The Homo Sapians Agenda, I will then read it’s sequel:

***This would be where I would normally insert the book synopsis BUT you know how much I loathe spoilers so I don’t even want to look it up. So basically I have no idea what this book is about other than it is the sequel to the book I’m currently reading, lol. Could be about zombies, could be about cupcakes, could be a romance, could be a thriller…your guess is as good as mine???***

Now if I end up finishing Simon Vs The Homo Sapians Agenda and have zero desire to read it’s sequel, I think I may read this book next:

I have been waiting for MONTHS to read this book! I think it sounds amazing! Starting it today, I clearly have VERY high expectations…fingers crossed that I won’t be disappointed…

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

Being as Type A as I am, I will NOT be unprepared with reading material during a future state shutdown like I was during the last one! I am keeping my library book pile fully stocked. As we speak, I have 10 books checked out of the library PLUS a pile of books that I own just waiting for me to read them! Clearly, I have many to choose from but as of now I’m thinking I will read this one next:

I’m undecided if this book format will be interesting or annoying but I do know that it’s intriguing? I’m already annoyed that the title words and author name don’t begin with capital letters (I told you I’m Type A). We’ll see. This book is VERY outside of the type of book I usually read??? I’ve been excited to read this one and was so happy when my copy arrived at my library! I’ve heard it’s wonderful. I’m REALLY hoping it is as good as I was wanting THIS BOOK to be (I was so disappointed in that book than I returned it’s squeal to the library without even opening the cover). Fingers crossed this book will be better!

When Michael Daswick sent me book #1 of his Zin Mignon book series, I was super excited. We are VERY into children’s cooking competition shows over here so reading about the journey of a young chef who opens his own HIGHLY successful restaurant sounded wonderful to me. I finished reading this book yesterday morning and I can honestly say from my heart that I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. My daughter will adore this book, I’m so excited for her to read it. I can’t wait to write a full glowing review on my blog for this one soon (and to also host an AWESOME giveaway for it)! Stay tuned! I do have a few books on hold at the library that look amazing so if I get to the library over the next few days I will return this one and grab those. If I don’t have a chance to get there over the next few days…I’ll read this one and eventually return it when I can. DON’T EVER DO THIS! Oops. #momlife #pandemic
