What do you think you’ll read next?

I FINALLY GOT MY HANDS ON A COPY.  I have been wanting to read this book loooong before it’s release.  The controversy it has caused has been INSANE and I can’t wait to read it for myself.  If you haven’t heard about this book or all of the controversy it has caused (including the author having to cancel her book tour due to receiving death threats) you can read more about it HERE. I’m not 100 percent sure if this will be the book I will read next but I’m thinking maybe?  Have any of you read it (NO SPOILERS if you have)???

Goodreads Synopsis of American Dirt {Jeanine Cummins}:

Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable.

Even though she knows they’ll never sell, Lydia stocks some of her all-time favorite books in her store. And then one day a man enters the shop to browse and comes up to the register with a few books he would like to buy—two of them her favorites. Javier is erudite. He is charming. And, unbeknownst to Lydia, he is the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Forced to flee, Lydia and eight-year-old Luca soon find themselves miles and worlds away from their comfortable middle-class existence. Instantly transformed into migrants, Lydia and Luca ride la bestia—trains that make their way north toward the United States, which is the only place Javier’s reach doesn’t extend. As they join the countless people trying to reach el norte, Lydia soon sees that everyone is running from something. But what exactly are they running to?

  1. Currently reading: The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult
Finished: The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson and Charming Falls Apart by Angela Terry (I think you’d like both and the latter takes place in Chicago).
Next: The Bridge of Scarlet Leaves by Kristina McMorris (If you haven’t read her books, you need to!)

  2. With The Fire On High certainly appeals to me, the other two not so much. That there is so much controversy over American Dirt rather than making me want to read it kind of puts me off but we shall see.

For myself I’m currently reading Now You See Me by Sharon Bolton and last read Little White Secrets by Carol Mason. What my next read will be I’m not certain.
