Blogmas 2022: The 13 Best Books I Read in 2022

Blogmas 2022: The 13 Best Books I Read in 2022

For the past 2 years on this post I have used a picture of the year’s number all lit up in beautiful lights from an annual drive thru light show. This year they had the lights set up in a weird place and I couldn’t get my annual blog picture! Soooo….random selfie it is, lol.

It’s heeeeeere….the post I wait all year to write! This post is always so much fun for me because it allows me the opportunity to think about and reflect on alllllll of the books I’ve read this year (and I’ve read A LOT of books this year). It’s also always one of my most visited posts due to the fact that I include it in my blog signature at the very bottom of each post that I write.

If you are a regular blog reader, you know that I always include my “bottom line” on the bottom of my reviews which is a quick way for me to recap my feelings. Just like I have done in past years, I thought it would be fun to list these books only by the bottom line that I gave to them in my reviews. Click these bottom lines to take you directly to my review of each book (which also includes the synopsis for each book).

Here are links to my favorite books from past years:

READ THIS BOOK STAT!

READ THIS BOOK STAT.

Yesterday’s Mystery Drive Thru Coffee. I paid and pulled away. I took the first sip and quickly realized that this was most definitely not 3 cream/3 Splenda. However, it was DELICIOUS so I just kept on driving, lol. Thanks for the mystery, Dunkin! Xo!

I rarely buy books. The minimalist in me LOVES borrowing (and then returning) books to the library. It’s such a win win…I read so many books and if I don’t love them…eh…I just bring them back.

Do I have big, colorful bookshelves proudly displayed in my home artistically filled with all of my reading adventures? I do not. Do I sometimes get Bookstagram Envy on Instagram? Oh I sure do. Do I love having a clean, clutter free home? YES YES YES.

Sometimes, I cave.

Barnes and Noble gift card? I bought THIS BOOK. Global pandemic? Ordered THIS BOOK on Amazon.

Needless to say, I hated both of those books and gave both away as soon as I finished reading. Ugh.

And then I bought THIS BEAUTIFUL BOOK while on vacation a few months ago and I loved every word. A smart purchase indeed. I also bought THIS BOOK on that same trip and it ended up being the very best book I’ve ever read!

And I DID just buy 2 books last weekend when I just so happened to be a few miles away from the MECCA of bookstores…

A few weeks ago I put my name on the library waitlist for Taylor Jenkins Reid’s newest book, Malibu Rising. I was so excited to read it! In the meantime I read THIS BOOK. And hated it. And when I finished reading that awfully boring book, I KNEW I needed something AWESOME to read next.

Approximately 5 clicks later and Amazon Prime promised me that I would have Malibu Rising in my hands the very next day. And I did 🙂

Goodreads Synopsis of Malibu Rising {Taylor Jenkins Reid}:

Malibu: August 1983. It’s the day of Nina Riva’s annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over–especially as the offspring of the legendary singer Mick Riva.

The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself, who never wanted to be the center of attention, and who has also just been very publicly abandoned by her pro tennis player husband. Oh, and maybe Hud–because it is long past time for him to confess something to the brother from whom he’s been inseparable since birth.

Jay, on the other hand, is counting the minutes until nightfall, when the girl he can’t stop thinking about promised she’ll be there.

And Kit has a couple secrets of her own–including a guest she invited without consulting anyone.

By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames. But before that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play, and the loves and secrets that shaped this family’s generations will all come bubbling to the surface.

Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them . . . and what they will leave behind.

My Review of Malibu Rising {Taylor Jenkins Reid}:

EVEEEEERYONE is reading this book right now. And there’s a reason.

I. ABSOLUTELY. LOVED. IT. I finished the last page, heard myself breathe a huge breath I didn’t even know I had been holding , and out loud (to absolutely nobody but myself) said “WOW”.

This book was amazing and I was completely all in from the very first sentence. It was interesting, it was fascinating, it was AWESOME.

PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE THIS BOOK INTO A MOVIE. OR A TELEVISION SERIES. OR A MINISERIES. ANYTHING ON A SCREEN!!! This would be an amazing story to be able to actually see unfold on a screen.

I do have 2 complaints…

1. There were so many characters and so many backstories that I’m STILL not even sure I know who everyone was. I think there were definitely wasted pages talking so much about these unnecessary characters but I suppose it did give an overall feel to the depth of the partygoers?

2. A few of the big twists were highly predictable (although a few were NOT).

However, these complaints are SMALL in comparison to how many things I absolutely loved about this book. It’s a wonderfully written story, so complex and so amazing.. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since I finished reading. An absolutely perfect summer read.

Bottom Line:

Buying this book was such a SMART decision, so happy that I did!

The Best Book I Have Ever Read.

Hi 💙

A few days ago, I decided to read this book…and 24 hours later I finished it. I very literally DEVOURED IT and savored each and every word. I couldn’t put it down, couldn’t stop thinking about it, and couldn’t do ANYTHING other than read it. I absolutely loved every second of this beautiful book.

The Best Book I Have Ever Read:

Synopsis of The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry {Gabrielle Zevin}:

**I usually provide the Goodreads synopsis of the books I review. HOWEVER, I think the Goodreads synopsis actually is a bit TOO detailed and reveals a bit TOO much about this particular book that the reader shouldn’t know before reading! Here is the short synopsis from the back of the book which is perfect and gives absolutely nothing away**

My Review of The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry {Gabrielle Zevin}:

This was one of the 4 books I recently purchased and I must say…I’m so glad I did. This is not the kind of book I could return to the library! I’m so happy to own my own copy.

This. Book. Is. MAGICAL.

I read it cover to cover in just over 24 hours and I think it’s the most beautifully written book I’ve ever read.

This is a VERY bold statement but I honestly think it’s the truth!

I loved every single word, every single message, every single literary reference, every single EVERYTHING.

I stopped giving books “stars” a long time ago but if I could give this book alllllll the stars, I would.

The words in these pages will stay in my heart forever. These characters, these stories lines, these MESSAGES…oh how I loved this beautiful book.

Do yourself a favor. Read this book, devour this book, cherish this book.

Thank you to my friend Jenna, Stop Reading! for introducing me to what has now EASILY slid into my #1 favorite book. I’ve been hearing her sing it’s praises for years and I’m absolutely kicking myself for not reading this beautiful book long ago.

This book is a GIFT for booklovers to enjoy. The descriptions of the bookstore and the special books it houses are perfection. If you have a special place in your heart for books, you will absolutely ADORE this special book. If you are looking for a gift to give a book lover, here it is.

This is NOT a new release…it was published in 2014. This is EXCELLENT news for you library patrons…the chances of you quickly receiving a copy are most likely quite high! However, I would recommend just buying it. You won’t want to give it back.

Gabrielle Zevin’s Young Jane Young was one of the very first books I ever reviewed on my blog. It will always be a special post to me because she was the very first author to “like” my review of her book. It ignited such a fire in me to know that she read my words about her writing. Since then, I have met and interacted with SO MANY AUTHORS and I must say that it’s one of my favorite parts about blogging.

Gabrielle, if you read this post…thank you. I absolutely love this book and I love being able to share it with others. What a special book you have written!

Here are links to 2 other books which are absolutely 2 of my other VERY FAVORITES! You can read about those books HERE and HERE.

Bottom Line

This is the best book I have ever read. And I have read A LOT of books.

Have you read this book? What did you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
