BLOGMAS:Book Coffee Happy’s newest series where I share the book I’m currently reading, the coffee I’m currently drinking, and 1 thing that is currently making me HAPPY!
The annual drive thru holiday light show! Every single year my kids’ favorite part is seeing “Santa’s Butt”.
Book I’m Currently Reading:
I wrote all about the wonderful book series that I’m currently reading in THIS POST. It’s such a perfect book series to read this time of year! Totally light, easy to read, and filled with the spirit of the season. I’m really loving these books! I’m currently halfway through book #3, Cardinal Cabin. I want to live in this adorable town!
Coffee I’m Currently Drinking:
Look what my husband bought for me! Absolutely LOVE! He ordered it straight from Yeti’s website and it’s so beautiful and amazing.
Hello new bestie!
Currently Making Me Happy:
I recently came across these from when my kids were little babies and my heart melted! Books are clearly important in this house and always have been 🙂 My daughter’s on the left is from one of MY all time favorite books and my son’s on the right is from one of my HUSBAND’S all time favorite books!
Can any of you guess which the 2 books these are from???

Well. That was QUITE unintentional blogging break! I’m so sorry! Things in my life have been crazy and busy and unfortunately my favorite hobby has clearly suffered a bit as a result. However, as busy as I’ve been, I most definitely have still been reading!
Before I get into exactly WHAT I’ve been reading, I should probably do a bit of catching up. The last post that I published included a picture of a Halloween skeleton. As I’m typing this, my favorite holiday scented candle is next to me and Pandora is playing my favorite holiday station. Clearly time has passed!
Bath and Body Works Winter Candy Apple is one of my absolute favorite scents on Earth.
In my last post, I mentioned that I was reading The Reading List and was looking forward to reading In My Dreams I Hold a Knife. I never finished The Reading List although I honestly was LOVING it. I was just…not captivated enough. Do you remember all of the reasons I stopped reading The Guncle? Replace that book title with The Reading List and those are literally the EXACT same reasons that I stopped reading this one (you can see the post with those reasons HERE).
Ugh.
Aaaaaand while we are talking about books that I indeed did NOT finish because I wasn’t captivated enough…let’s just go ahead and add The Paper Palace to that list as well.
I wish WordPress would let me insert the face palm emoji here…
As for In My Dreams I Hold A Knife, I DID in fact read (and finish!!!) that book! I’m working on my review and will have it posted here later this week!
I’m currently celebrating my favorite time of year by reading this book with the most GORGEOUS cover:
I randomly found this little gem in a Little Free Library last spring and have been saving it to read during this holiday season (I could never read a book like this at any other time of year…anyone else feel this way?) When I went on Goodreads to check it out after I got it last spring, I noticed that it’s technically the 2nd in a series. I immediately messaged the author about this and here is what she said:
Perfect! I’ll post my review here as soon as I finish reading 🙂
Do any of you have suggestions of other holiday books? I already have a few lined up but I cannot get enough of them during this time of year! If you are looking for some GREAT holiday reads, HERE is a link to my absolute favorites! I’d love to hear about yours…please post in the comments below!

Jenny

I love when Book Coffee Happy can participate in WWW! And this week I’m doing it actually ON a WEDNESDAY, lol! Amazing! The Three Ws: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?
Before I dive into the wonderful book that I’m currently reading, I would like to thank you all for you kind words and condolences on my last post. She sure was a beauty. I’m currently working through my grief and trying to figure out how to move on 😉
What Are You Currently Reading?
I’ll post my full review once I finish reading but so far it’s wonderful and BEAUTIFULLY written.
Goodreads Synopsis of The Reading List{Sara Nisha Adams}:
Widower Mukesh lives a quiet life in the London Borough of Ealing after losing his beloved wife. He shops every Wednesday, goes to Temple, and worries about his granddaughter, Priya, who hides in her room reading while he spends his evenings watching nature documentaries.
Aleisha is a bright but anxious teenager working at the local library for the summer when she discovers a crumpled-up piece of paper in the back of To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s a list of novels that she’s never heard of before. Intrigued, and a little bored with her slow job at the checkout desk, she impulsively decides to read every book on the list, one after the other. As each story gives up its magic, the books transport Aleisha from the painful realities she’s facing at home.
When Mukesh arrives at the library, desperate to forge a connection with his bookworm granddaughter, Aleisha passes along the reading list…hoping that it will be a lifeline for him too. Slowly, the shared books create a connection between two lonely souls, as fiction helps them escape their grief and everyday troubles and find joy again.

Goodreads Synopsis of Firsts {Laurie Elizabeth Flynn}:
Seventeen-year-old Mercedes Ayres has an open-door policy when it comes to her bedroom, but only if the guy fulfills a specific criteria: he has to be a virgin. Mercedes lets the boys get their awkward, fumbling first times over with, and all she asks in return is that they give their girlfriends the perfect first time- the kind Mercedes never had herself.
Keeping what goes on in her bedroom a secret has been easy- so far. Her absentee mother isn’t home nearly enough to know about Mercedes’ extracurricular activities, and her uber-religious best friend, Angela, won’t even say the word “sex” until she gets married. But Mercedes doesn’t bank on Angela’s boyfriend finding out about her services and wanting a turn- or on Zach, who likes her for who she is instead of what she can do in bed.
When Mercedes’ perfect system falls apart, she has to find a way to salvage her reputation and figure out where her heart really belongs in the process.
It seems EVERYONE is reading this book right now and I’ve heard it’s AWESOME. I can’t wait to get started! If you are someone looking to read the latest book that EVERYONE will be reading and talking about…here you go 🙂
Goodreads Synopsis of In My Dreams I Hold a Knife {Ashley Winstead}:
Ten years after graduation, Jessica Miller has planned her triumphant return to southern, elite Duquette University, down to the envious whispers that are sure to follow in her wake. Everyone is going to see the girl she wants them to see—confident, beautiful, indifferent—not the girl she was when she left campus, back when Heather’s murder fractured everything, including the tight bond linking the six friends she’d been closest to since freshman year. Ten years ago, everything fell apart, including the dreams she worked for her whole life—and her relationship with the one person she wasn’t supposed to love.
But not everyone is ready to move on. Not everyone left Duquette ten years ago, and not everyone can let Heather’s murder go unsolved. Someone is determined to trap the real killer, to make the guilty pay. When the six friends are reunited, they will be forced to confront what happened that night—and the years’ worth of secrets each of them would do anything to keep hidden.
Have you read any of these 3 books? What did you think (no spoilers)? What are you currently reading? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Book Coffee Happy’s newest series where I share the book I’m currently reading, the coffee I’m currently drinking, and 1 thing that is currently making me happy!
Beautiful old books I came across while at an antique store a few weeks ago!
Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for weeklong visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for the holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is honestly a bit out of his league.
So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick’s brother has a health crisis of his own, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian. Despite having a set of “Guncle Rules” ready to go, Patrick has no idea what to expect, having spent years barely holding on after the loss of his great love, a somewhat-stalled career, and a lifestyle not-so-suited to a six- and a nine-year-old. Quickly realizing that parenting—even if temporary—isn’t solved with treats and jokes, Patrick’s eyes are opened to a new sense of responsibility, and the realization that, sometimes, even being larger than life means you’re unfailingly human.
I’ll post my thoughts when I finish reading!
Coffee I’m Currently Drinking:
Delicious coffee while watching the new season of Nailed It with my kids (Do any of you watch it? We LOVE Nailed It over here!)
Currently Making Me Happy:
I write notes in my kids’ lunchboxes every day and about once a week I sneak a little present in there, too. These were last week’s lunch surprises! They were a hit!
Happy Friday (almost…it’s currently 10:00 PM on Thursday)! I hope your weekend is filled with love and BOOKS!

The only way the family will survive is if the pilot follows his orders and crashes the plane.
Enjoy the flight.

Goodreads Synopsis of The Last Thing He Told Me {Laura Dave}:
We all have stories we never tell. Before Owen Michaels disappears, he manages to smuggle a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her.
Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers: Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother.
As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered; as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss; as a US Marshal and FBI agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was. And that Bailey just may hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity—and why he really disappeared.
Hannah and Bailey set out to discover the truth, together. But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen’s past, they soon realize they are also building a new future. One neither Hannah nor Bailey could have anticipated.

I got a new computer this weekend (obsessed) and of course I wanted to try it out ASAP. What better way than a random weekend blog post? This post will be a bit all over the place but I really just want to try out all of this new computer’s features. I’m in LOVE!
Obsessed.
Street Fest:
Yesterday we went to a street fest by our house. It was a perfect outdoor activity!
My daughter had so much fun doing the pony rides. My son…cried because it smelled like horse doodie and refused to get on. The lady gave me back my money but she wasn’t thrilled about it. #fail
Iced vanilla latte at the fest! Delish!Saw this at the fest yesterday. It’s so true!
Book I Finished, Book I Started:
As for books, I finished reading this book last night and I have allllll kinds of thoughts. Review coming soon!
Synopsis from Goodreads of Other People’s Children {R.J. Hoffman}:
Gail and Jon Durbin moved to the Chicago suburbs to set up house as soon as Gail got pregnant. But then she miscarried—once, twice, three times. Determined to expand their family, the Durbins turn to adoption. When several adoptions fall through, Gail’s desire for a child overwhelms her.
Carli is a pregnant teenager from a blue-collar town nearby, with dreams of going to college and getting out of her mother’s home. When she makes the gut-wrenching decision to give her baby up for adoption, she chooses the Durbins. But Carli’s mother, Marla, has other plans for her grandbaby.
In Other People’s Children, three mothers make excruciating choices to protect their families and their dreams—choices that put them at decided odds against one another. You will root for each one of them and wonder just how far you’d go in the same situation. This riveting debut is a thoughtful exploration of love and family, and a heart-pounding page-turner you’ll find impossible to put down.
I started reading this one this morning. I’ll let you know my thoughts ASAP! I’m currently on chapter 3…
Synopsis from Goodreads of The Photographer {Mary Dixie Carter}:
WHEN PERFECT IMAGES
As a photographer, Delta Dawn observes the seemingly perfect lives of New York City’s elite: snapping photos of their children’s birthday parties, transforming images of stiff hugs and tearstained faces into visions of pure joy, and creating moments these parents long for.
ARE MADE OF BEAUTIFUL LIES
But when Delta is hired for Natalie Straub’s eleventh birthday, she finds herself wishing she wasn’t behind the lens but a part of the scene―in the Straub family’s gorgeous home and elegant life.
THE TRUTH WILL BE EXPOSED
That’s when Delta puts her plan in place, by babysitting for Natalie; befriending her mother, Amelia; finding chances to listen to her father, Fritz. Soon she’s bathing in the master bathtub, drinking their expensive wine, and eyeing the beautifully finished garden apartment in their townhouse. It seems she can never get close enough, until she discovers that photos aren’t all she can manipulate.

Throughout the years, I have come to know Lisa on a personal level and I can attest that her beautiful personality is just as wonderful as her writing. The cover revel for Lisa’s newest book, Woman on Fire, has been released and it’s STUNNING! Check this out:
Absolutely LOVE!
And a blurb from one of my all time favorites, Mary Kubica??? YES PLEASE!
“Incredibly fast-paced and savvy, Lisa Barr takes readers into the high stakes world of art theft through the eyes of a young, gutsy journalist. Thick with history, scandal, romance and deceit, WOMAN ON FIRE is a truly compulsive read.” – Mary Kubica, New York Times bestselling author of LOCAL WOMAN MISSING

Goodreads Synopsis ofThe Wife Upstairs:
Meet Jane. Newly arrived to Birmingham, Alabama, Jane is a broke dog-walker in Thornfield Estates—a gated community full of McMansions, shiny SUVs, and bored housewives. The kind of place where no one will notice if Jane lifts the discarded tchotchkes and jewelry off the side tables of her well-heeled clients. Where no one will think to ask if Jane is her real name.
But her luck changes when she meets Eddie Rochester. Recently widowed, Eddie is Thornfield Estates’ most mysterious resident. His wife, Bea, drowned in a boating accident with her best friend, their bodies lost to the deep. Jane can’t help but see an opportunity in Eddie—not only is he rich, brooding, and handsome, he could also offer her the kind of protection she’s always yearned for.
Yet as Jane and Eddie fall for each other, Jane is increasingly haunted by the legend of Bea, an ambitious beauty with a rags-to-riches origin story, who launched a wildly successful southern lifestyle brand. How can she, plain Jane, ever measure up? And can she win Eddie’s heart before her past—or his—catches up to her?

Last week as I was laying in bed, I reached for my book that was on my nightstand and I was greeted with this. I feel like this could be one of those “show me you are living with a 5 year old boy without telling me that you are living with a 5 year old boy” situations. Hilarious!
Oh hey, Spiderman.

Book Coffee Happy’s newest series where I share the book I’m currently reading, the coffee I’m currently drinking, and 1 thing that is currently making me happy!
Book I’m Currently Reading:
Goodreads Synopsis of Are we There Yet {Kathleen West}:
Alice Sullivan feels like she’s finally found her groove in middle age, but it only takes one moment for her perfectly curated life to unravel. On the same day she learns her daughter is struggling in second grade, a call from her son’s school accusing him of bullying throws Alice into a tailspin.
When it comes to light that the incident is part of a new behavior pattern for her son, one complete with fake social media profiles with a lot of questionable content, Alice’s social standing is quickly eroded to one of “those moms” who can’t control her kids. Soon she’s facing the very judgement she was all too happy to dole out when she thought no one was looking (or when she thought her house wasn’t made of glass).
Then her mother unloads a family secret she’s kept for more than thirty years, and Alice’s entire perception of herself is shattered.
As her son’s new reputation polarizes her friendships and her family buzzes with the ramification of her mother’s choices, Alice realizes that she’s been too focused on measuring her success and happiness by everyone else’s standards. Now, with all her shortcomings laid bare, she’ll have to figure out to whom to turn for help and decide who she really wants to be.
I’ll post my review as soon as I finish reading!
Coffee I’m Currently Drinking:
I’ve read online that people swear this is the very best coffee creamer on Earth. Apparently it’s incredibly hard to find so when I randomly walked right by it at my local Target last week, of course I knew I had to try it for myself!
I’ve been pretty obsessed with oatmilk in my coffee lately so I had high hopes for this creamer!
Eh. I liked the “oaty” (that’s definitely not a word) flavor but the oatmeal cookie flavor just tasted fake and chemically to me. I’ll take plain old Half and Half any day! I’m always on the hunt for ways to take my coffee to the next level so I’m glad I tried this but…I would say this was a fail. Have any of you tried it? Does anyone have other coffee creamer recommendations?

READING OUTSIDE!
I finished reading Malibu Rising 2 days ago! I’ll have my review posted next week!
Oh how I love to read outside and the time is HERE! I try to read outside whenever I can find the chance to do so. On my hammock, on our front porch rocking chair, on a chair in our backyard, etc. I LOVE reading outside, especially when the sun in shining! The weather here has been beautiful and I’ve definitely been taking advantage by spending as much time outdoors as possible…with a book!
Happy Friday! I hope your weekend is filled with love and BOOKS!

Goodreads Synopsis of Malibu Rising {Taylor Jenkins Reid}:
Malibu: August 1983. It’s the day of Nina Riva’s annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone wants to be around the famous Rivas: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over–especially as the offspring of the legendary singer Mick Riva.
The only person not looking forward to the party of the year is Nina herself, who never wanted to be the center of attention, and who has also just been very publicly abandoned by her pro tennis player husband. Oh, and maybe Hud–because it is long past time for him to confess something to the brother from whom he’s been inseparable since birth.
Jay, on the other hand, is counting the minutes until nightfall, when the girl he can’t stop thinking about promised she’ll be there.
And Kit has a couple secrets of her own–including a guest she invited without consulting anyone.
By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning, the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames. But before that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play, and the loves and secrets that shaped this family’s generations will all come bubbling to the surface.
Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them . . . and what they will leave behind.
If you don’t follow Book Coffee Happy on Facebook, please do! Lots of awesome book discussions are always happening over there!

Goodreads Synopsis of Beach Read {Emily Henry}:
Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.
They’re polar opposites.
In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they’re living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer’s block.
Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.
I finished reading this one yesterday morning! I’ll have my review posted on here soon!

The Latest Book I Read in Less than 24 Hours, Giveaway (3 Copies!) Local Woman Missing {Mary Kubica}, Reading With My Family
My husband bought me the most amazing looking candle from one of my favorite tv shows! I just wish it smelled as amazing as it looks….🤪
The Latest Book I Read in Less than 24 Hours:
I read Starfish by Lisa Fipps cover to cover in less than 24 hours over this past weekend! I’ll have a full review posted soon!
Goodreads Synopsis of Starfish {Lisa Fipps}:
Ever since Ellie wore a whale swimsuit and made a big splash at her fifth birthday party, she’s been bullied about her weight. To cope, she tries to live by the Fat Girl Rules–like “no making waves,” “avoid eating in public,” and “don’t move so fast that your body jiggles.” And she’s found her safe space–her swimming pool–where she feels weightless in a fat-obsessed world. In the water, she can stretch herself out like a starfish and take up all the room she wants. It’s also where she can get away from her pushy mom, who thinks criticizing Ellie’s weight will motivate her to diet. Fortunately, Ellie has allies in her dad, her therapist, and her new neighbor, Catalina, who loves Ellie for who she is. With this support buoying her, Ellie might finally be able to cast aside the Fat Girl Rules and starfish in real life–by unapologetically being her own fabulous self.

Family Reading:
On Mother’s Day, my kids planned an ENTIRE day filled with all of my favorite things which included…
Drum roll, please…
AN HOUR OF SILENT FAMILY READING.
All 4 of us in bed reading silently. Books for my husband, daughter, and I. Electronic book for my son. It was GLORIOUS. I once wrote a post (you can read it HERE) all about how I believe reading next to those you love just enhances the reading experience and that is absolutely what happened yesterday. I loved it so, so much.
My view. Perfection.
I hope you are all having a nice Monday. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Mommys out there, I hope yesterday included a bit of quiest and peaceful reading time for you!
I’ll be back here on Wednesday with a review of an adorable and important children’s book, can’t wait to share 🙂

Jenny
