I’m Baaaaaaack and a BOOK GIVEAWAY!

I’m Baaaaaaack and a BOOK GIVEAWAY!

Long time no post! Hiiiiiii!

I must start by saying that although I haven’t been posting on my blog over these past 2 months, I most definately have been posting on Instagram….almost daily! If you don’t already follow Book Coffee Happy on Instagram, please do. I’m significantly more active over there than I am on here (especially in my Instastories…I love making them and talking about my reading life in real time)!

I posted my last blog post on February 2nd. 3 days later I was called downtown for jury duty and ended up spending 2 weeks sitting on a jury for a criminal case in a federal trial. I will not discuss the specifics of the case on here (feels weird to do so) but I will say that it was one of the most fascinating and interesting experiences of my life! I LOVED sitting on a jury. I learned a ridiculous amount of information during those 2 weeks and soaked it all in like a sponge…I took 35 pages of notes during the trial! I found the entire process FASCINATING. It also helped that the people who sat on the jury with me were lovely which was great considering we all spent Valentine’s Day together, lol.

**And yes, I have watched the tv series “Jury Duty” and yes I thought it was amazing. If you have ever sat on a jury, this show is a must see! Hilarious!**

I had to leave my house before sunrise every morning. I drank LOTS of coffee.

Valentine’s Day 2024. In front of the entire courtroom of people, the judge commented that she liked my sweater!
I can’t wait to get summoned again!!

What else have I been up to…

My son got to participate in a basketball clinic held in the Chicago Bulls practice facility and he was coached by Will Perdue. Turns out Will is just a smiiiiidge taller than I am.

I got to be an extra in a Mario Lopez Christmas movie! It will be called “My Grown Up Christmas Wish” and will air throughout this holiday season on the Great American Family channel starting around Thanksgiving!

I LOVE MARIO LOPEZ (always have) and you already know how I much I love all things Christmas so this was literally a dream come true. My entire family got to do it! My son filmed over the course of 2 seperate days, my husband filmed for about 5 hours, and my daughter and I filmed together on set for 12 HOURS STRAIGHT with Mario and his wife, Courtney! So, so, so much fun. We were in so many different scenes!

The props lady handed me this fake cup of apple cider to hold while filming some of the scenes. It matched my lipstick! I wanted it to be filled with real coffee, lol.

Ok what else have I been up for over these past 2 months….

I’ve gone to 8 plays (4 of which my kids were both in!!), 3 school concerts, a road trip with my daughter, worked alongside some amazing moms and planned/ran a successful PTO silent auction/event, spent so much time with my family and friends, and lots more. It’s been a busy and wonderful 2 months 🙂

I may not have been blogging but I most definitely have been READING! 8 books in total since I have last written a blog post. I am working on posting reviews for all of them ASAP! Some have been amazing and some….not so much ;). Stay tuned!

From Book Coffee Happy’s Insta:

On Wednesday night, I went to a delightful book event at The Book Stall in Wilmette, IL. My girl Rochelle Weinstein was there discussing her AMAZING book, What You Do To Me. I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED that book! You can read the book synopsis and my (glowing obvi) review of it HERE.

Love you 🙂

BOOK GIVEAWAY (Open to International Readers): Typecast {Andrea J. Stein}

Book Giveaway (Open to International Readers): Typecast {Andrea J. Stein}

Ahhhh I’m SO excited to be able to share this gem with you today! I absolutely loved this book and I so highly recommend it…

Goodreads Synopsis of Typecast (Andrea J. Stein):

Callie Dressler thought she had put her past where it belonged—behind her. But when she learns her ex-boyfriend is bringing their breakup to the big screen, she must face the fact that their history has been looming over her all along.

At thirty-two, Callie Dressler is finally comfortable in her own skin. She loves her job as a preschool teacher, and although living in her vacant childhood home isn’t necessarily what dreams are made of, the space is something she never could have afforded if she’d stayed in New York City. She knows her well-ordered life will be upended when her type A, pregnant sister, Nina; adorable four-year-old niece; and workaholic brother-in-law move in, but how could she say no when they needed a place to crash during their remodel? As Nina pointed out, it is still their parents’ house, even though their mom and dad have relocated.

As if adjusting to this new living situation isn’t enough, the universe sends Callie another wrinkle: her college boyfriend, Ethan—who Callie dumped ten years earlier for reasons known only to her—has a film coming out, and the screenplay is based on their real-life breakup. While the movie consumes her thoughts, Callie can’t help wondering if Nina and her friends are right that she hasn’t moved on. When a complication with Nina’s pregnancy brings Callie in close contact with Nina’s smart and funny architect, Callie realizes she had better figure out whether she wants to open the door to the past—or she’ll risk missing out on her future.

My Thoughts on Typecast {Andrea J. Stein} :

Absolutely loved it.

These characters and their relationships with each other were so detailed and wonderfully written. To see those relationships (and their perspectives) change over time was so interesting to read! I loved the dual timelines as they were able to come together to eventually tell the whole story. I had some pretty strong predictions very early on as to where this story was going to go and I am happy to report that I was WRONG! I absolutely love when that happens….when a book can go in a completely different direction than the reader was thinking that it would.

The writing in this book was great and so easy to follow…I often read more in one sitting that I was intending to because I was so into the storylines! A sign of a wonderful book! What a fantastic debut novel she has written.

The character development was GREAT. I felt like I really “knew” these people! It was hard to “say good-bye” to them when I finished reading this book. I would so love for there to be a sequel…??

A Conversation With Andrea J. Stein, in Her Own Words:

What inspired you to write Typecast?

The story was inspired when I heard about a guy who made a short film about his college girlfriend, ten years after graduation.  It got me wondering how that girlfriend would feel if she knew she was the subject of a film so many years later.  From there, I started thinking about who that woman would be – would she be single or married?  Why did the college relationship end?  That was how Typecast was born.

What was the most fun part of writing Typecast?

That’s a tough question!  I had fun getting to know my characters, and I definitely enjoyed spooling out the romance part of the story.  I also had fun writing the children in the book – some of whose remarks just may have come from my own kids!

Without giving away spoilers, what are some takeaway messages that you hope readers will gain from reading Typecast?

One big message is about forgiveness – and especially self-forgiveness.  It’s so important to recognize, and truly internalize, that the choices you made in the past were probably the best ones you could make at the time – with the information you had, and who you were as a person.

Where can your book be purchased?

Like they say, anywhere books are sold.  It’s available at all online booksellers, and any brick-and-mortar bookstore can order it for you if they don’t already have it on their shelves.

Any additional information that you would like to provide about you or your book:

Bringing my debut novel into the world was an amazing experience, and I have so much gratitude for all my readers.  Stay tuned for my next novel!

BOOK (AND BOOK SWAG) GIVEAWAY: What You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein}

BOOK (AND BOOK SWAG) GIVEAWAY: What You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein}

**What You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein} will be published on October 17, 2023. There is a link at the bottom of this post to preorder yourself a copy. I was fortunate enough to receive an early copy…and I have another early copy to give away to a lucky reader!**

This is the 4th book of Rochelle Weinstein’s that I have read. Here are my reviews of the other 3 books (Spoiler: loved them all):

Somebody’s Daughter

This is Not How It Ends

When We Let Go

As much as I adored her other 3 books, this one is HANDS DOWN my favorite.

Is this cover not STUNNING?!

Goodreads Synopsis of What You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein}:

From the bestselling author of This Is Not How It Ends comes a moving novel of two unfinished love stories and the music and lyrics that bring them together.

Journalist Cecilia James is a sucker for a love song. So when she stumbles across a clue to the identity of the muse for one of rock’s greatest, she devotes herself to uncovering the truth, even as her own relationship is falling apart.

While writing an article for Rolling Stone, Cecilia works to reveal the mystery that has intrigued fans and discovers a classic tale of two soulmates separated by fate and circumstance. Rock star Eddie Vee once sang with his soul, dedicating love songs to Sara Friedman, his inspiration and first love. Now, Eddie takes refuge in anonymity, closed off to the past. Sara, too, has distanced herself from their love, moving thousands of miles away to live the life she once railed against. As Eddie and Sara tentatively open up to Cecilia about broken dreams, she struggles to give them a happy ending. In the process, she learns that broken hearts can be healed—even her own.

What You Do To Me is the story of a love song and of the triumph of the heart over the greatest of odds. Even for those who have written off love forever.

My Review of What You Do To Me {Rochelle B. Weinstein}:

Oh this beautiful book…

The characters, the settings, THE MUSIC. I might never be able to listen to a song again without wondering who it was written for and the story behind it.

There are so many storylines in this book ranging from past to present and all of them came together to tell such an amazingly beautiful story. Everything is written with such depth and such heart.

The creativity is took to write a story like this..taking a modern song (a song which I have always LOVED by the way) and creating a different time AND different people all contributing to it’s beautiful lyrics all the while connecting different storylines to come together in such. a special and unique way?? Amazing.

My plans of getting a manicure prior to Rosh Hashanah dinner were foiled by the fact that I couldn’t put this book down and spent the entire day reading. I didn’t even remember that my nails looked like this until I was walking out the door. Lovely.

I smiled, I cried (tears streaming down both cheeks), I hummed song lyrics, I loved this whole book. I never wanted it to end! I felt so connected to these characters and their stories. This book is so BEAUTIFULLY written.

Love you, Rochelle 🙂

Book Coffee Happy Epilogue:

Loved every single word…and song lyric.

Book Giveaway: Signed Copy of Operation Mom {Reenita M. Hora}

Book Giveaway: Signed Copy of Operation Mom {Reenita M. Hora}

Goodreads Synopsis of Operation Mom {Reenita M. Hora}

Ila, a Mumbai-based teenager, is going nuts with Veena, her controlling, single mother who prevents her from stalking her pop idol, Ali Zafar. Veena wants her daughter to date real guys in the lead-up to finding a husband. But Ila decides that the only way to get her mom off her back is by finding her a boyfriend instead.

My Thoughts on Operation Mom {Reenita M. Hora}:

Ok first of all, I think this might be one of the most adorable covers I’ve seen. SO CUTE! I love the drawings, I love the hearts, I love the colors. Totally adorable.

My favorite parts of this book were the descriptions of Mumbai. Between the characters, the settings, and the storylines all told within the pages of this book, I received such an in depth description of the culture which I found so incredibly interesting.

I was also fascinated by the trials and tribulations of online dating! Omg! Being that I personally have never participated in online dating, I found the online dating parts of this book to be so fascinating!

This book is so quick, you could easily read it in 1 or 2 days. Only 215 pages! I love short books so much.

A Conversation With Reenita M. Hora, in Her Own Words:

What inspired you to write Operation Mom?

Operation Mom: My Plan to Get My Mom a Life and a Man takes inspiration from the badass cast of female characters that have been front and center all my life — my female friends and family members…and of course the males among them who cannot get in a word edgewise!  I also wanted to bring readers to Mumbai, the city of chaos that molded my own young adult adventures and has shaped my identity as a storyteller and a citizen of life.

What was the most fun part of writing Operation Mom?

Being a Mumbai native, I thought I had it all figured out — I knew exactly where I wanted to set the story, the places brimming with that unique Mumbai energy and the kind of character chaos that would make your head spin. But, here’s the twist. This book is for the young adults out there, and even though I’m technically an adult now (well, at least in size, if not in maturity), I had to dive headfirst into the madness of the current Mumbai young adult scene. So, picture this: me, having a blast chatting with my school-going nephew and his pals, picking up their lingo, comparing mindsets from my time to theirs, and embracing the change with open arms. It was like stepping into a whirlwind of fun and excitement! But there was more crazy research to be done — I hopped on those long bus rides, my friend, exploring the city, and planted myself in iconic spots like Swati Snacks and Kalaghoda Cafe (yep, they’re featured in the story!). You know what I did there? People-watching and eavesdropping on conversations like a true undercover author. Research has never been this entertaining!

And then let’s talk about characters. Creating them was so much fun. I pondered over their flaws and quirks because, let’s face it, that’s what makes us beautifully imperfect beings, right? I wanted to capture the sometimes-rocky relationships between mother and daughter, friend and friend, husband and wife, and, of course, boy and girl. My aim was to sprinkle humor and heartfelt moments throughout the entire journey, embracing the rawness and authenticity of my characters. No hiding their stubbornness or intelligence, my friend! Here’s the kicker: Ila and Veena, the mother-daughter duo, are essentially cut from the same cloth. It’s like looking at the zany women in my own household, including Yours Truly, and honing in on the traits and quirks that define our perfectly imperfect selves!

Without giving away any spoilers, what are some takeaway messages that you hope that readers will gain from reading Operation Mom?

I wanted to bring to readers young adult women’s fiction set in contemporary Mumbai; to introduce a bunch of zany female characters inspired by my own family and friends. But I am SO sure they will remind you of the crazy characters that you know and love in your own world. This is a story for someone who wants heartwarming comedic relief by taking a deep dive into the beautiful messiness of family dynamics. You’ll find yourself immersed in a world filled with humor, warmth, and moments that tug at your heartstrings. Like in my favorite TV show, ‘Friends’, I wanted to create characters that you feel are like your own buddies going through the ups and downs of life. And I wanted to provide a fresh take on the coming-of-age genre, exploring the fascinating dynamics of familial relationships, especially the unbreakable bond between a mother and daughter. You know, in India, it’s usually the moms playing matchmaker for their daughters, but this time, the daughter’s taking charge and turning things upside down! Finally, if you’re yearning to visit India, this book is like a little slice of Mumbai, sprinkled with humor, love, and a whole lot of heart.

Book Giveaway (3 signed copies): Ugly {Kelly Vincent}

Book Giveaway (3 signed copies): Ugly {Kelly Vincent}

As soon as I read the synopsis of Kelly Vincent’s Ugly, I immediately knew this was a book that I wanted to read and review on Book Coffee Happy. I was so excited when I received my print copy in the mail. I love the interesting cover!

Goodreads Synopsis of Ugly {Kelly Vincent}:

Sophomore Nic Summers tries to ignore the taunts of “ugly lesbian.”

Because she’s not sure they’re entirely wrong. But she also has bigger concerns for now, including prepping for the school’s art contest. And while she isn’t certain of her sexuality, she does know her life is on the verge of falling apart when her best and only friend, Sam, drops the bomb that her family’s moving to Scotland. Together, to soften the blow and distract themselves from the inevitable, they start Operation Social Interaction for Nic—or OSIN for short—to try to find her some new friends.

But it’s an uphill battle for the introverted teen artist.

As Sam’s last day nears, Nic’s self-confidence wavers even more, and she starts questioning everything. If lesbian doesn’t feel quite right, maybe she’s transgender? It isn’t until she stumbles across the label “gender nonconforming” that things start to make a little more sense, and fall into place. But finding the right label doesn’t really tell her what to do next, and before she knows it, Sam is gone.

Mustering all her resources, Nic realizes she needs to find her own path and live her own truth.

My Thoughts on Ugly {Kelly Vincent}:

Oh this book.

I absolutely loved it. What a beautifully written story with wonderfully descriptive characters. I felt all of Nic’s emotions as well as their emotional struggles as the story went on. My heart went from smiling to breaking as I read about how people treated and reacted to Nic. This book allows the reader to feel these emotions through such a personal perspective.

The biggest emotion that I felt while reading? I just wanted to hug Nic.

I had such a hard time saying good-bye to these characters (especially Nic) when I finished reading. You know the books where you close the cover and mentally just can’t move on? That was this book for me. I’m so happy to know that Kelly Vincent is busy working on a sequel! Uglier comes out in July and I love it already.

Every teenager (and adult!) should read this book. I truly can’t recommend it enough. You will smile, you will cry, you will LEARN. This is such an important book and absolutely one of the very best I’ve read in a very long time.

For a book titled Ugly, every single thing about this book is truly beautiful.

I absolutely loved it.

A Conversation With Kelly Vincent, in Her Own Words:

What was the hardest aspect of writing Nic’s story?

This was a very personal story and revisiting things that happened in my childhood stirred up a lot of feelings I’d sort of buried. But this actually helped me write the story, because I was able to still remember how those experiences felt so I could accurately convey how Nic felt when she experienced them. So even though it was hard and got me thinking about long-buried things, it was worth it.

Without giving away spoilers, what are some takeaway messages that you hope readers will gain from reading Ugly?

You can’t always change the world and people around you, but you do have the power to change some things in your life. Sometimes it’s just a matter of thinking outside the box or being patient. As a teenager it can be hard to be patient–I remember that well–but things can change as you get more autonomy when you get older.

Where can your book be purchased?

Ugly is available at all major book retailers, including in paperback through Amazon and Barnes and Noble and in ebook for Kindle, Nook, Apple, Google Play, and Kobo. It can also possibly be ordered through your local bookstore, depending on their policies.

Any additional information that you would like to provide about you or your book:

I am getting ready to send the sequel to Ugly, currently called Uglier, out to beta readers. I plan to release it in July. I absolutely love where Nic’s story has gone–it completely surprised me. If you are interested in being a beta reader for Uglier or future books, you can contact me at kelly@kellyvincent.net. (Uglier should work as a standalone if you are interested but haven’t read Ugly.)

Blogmas 2022: INTERNATIONAL BOOK GIVEAWAY (2 Signed Copies): The Mommy Clique {Barbara Altamirano}

Blogmas 2022: INTERNATIONAL BOOK GIVEAWAY (2 Signed Copies): The Mommy Clique {Barbara Altamirano}

I have such an amazing giveaway for you today! I’m so excited to share Barbara Altamirano’s fantastic book, The Mommy Clique. I absolutely loved this book and I found these women FASCINATING…

Goodreads Synopsis of The Mommy Clique {Barbara Altamirano}:

Life in suburbia is typical and ordinary-just the same old same old. Only, not in this neighborhood. Here, the impressively large homes and pure green lawns hide a much darker reality that is far from mundane.

When Beth moves back to her hometown in Connecticut to care for her ailing mother, she is forced to confront not only the ghosts of her youth but the other mothers on her street. There is Elise, the queen bee, who determines the fate of everyone and is all-controlling. There is Kelly, Elise’s sidekick and most sycophantic supporter, who secretly longs to have a voice and power of her own. There’s Ronnie, the informer, who, with her intelligence and investigative skill, digs up dirt on the others in service to the queen. And then there’s Gail, the wannabe, who is constantly striving to feel as important and valued as the others.

Looking for some mom friends, Beth seeks a place for herself within this mommy clique. Turns out they do have an available role for her: it’s called the target.

My Thoughts on The Mommy Clique {Barbara Altamirano}:

These women are HORRIBLE. Every single one of them! It was fascinating to see how each of them stayed “friends” with the others despite knowing how completely toxic their relationships were. I couldn’t believe that not one of them had the strength to simply walk away…I would have been out the door so fast that nobody would even have had time to try to stop me, lol 😉

What I found the most interesting about this book is how often I found myself rooting for certain characters just to change my mind a chapter later.

As a mother who has seen many, MANY “Mommy Cliques” and who has been a member of “Mommy Cliques” myself (thankfully NOTHING like the clique in this book, omg), I found everything about this book simply fascinating. Any mother would be able to relate to at least one of these characters at some point while reading this book.

Moms, read this book.

This is one of those books where you read it…and then go and hug your friends tightly. It doesn’t matter what your friends are like because ANY friends in real life have GOT to be better than the “friends” in this book!

The Mommy Clique was such a quick read…you could easily devour this one in 1 or 2 days.

A Conversation With Barbara Altamirano, in Her Own Words:

What would you say are the biggest differences between the “Mommy Clique” in this book and real life “Mommy Cliques?”

Thankfully, I think real life “Mommy Cliques” are nowhere near as intense and conniving as the characters in this book. One of the first editorial reviews I received referred to the book as a suburban satire. This seems a good way to describe it since the vices of the mothers are exaggerated so that they are much worse than in real life.

Which Mommy in this book would you say you most relate to and how?

I would say I relate the most to Beth, since her personality is the closest to mine. However, I would not have continued to try to be a part of this group once I saw what they were like. I’m pretty sure I would have run the other way as fast as I could!

Where can your book be purchased?

The book can be purchased from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and at my website, barbaraaltamiranoauthor.com

Blogmas 2022: 2 Books For Upcoming Blog Giveaways

Blogmas 2022: 2 Books For Upcoming Blog Giveaways

Being a book blogger, I’m extraordinarily fortunate that authors and publishers graciously offer to send me books every single day. Although I would say I turn down probably 85% of them at this point, I’m always thankful for the offer. I pride myself on only accepting books that are books I am genuinely excited to read and books that I would have chosen on my own had they not been offered to me to read.

I have recently received 2 books in the mail and I think both sound GREAT. I will be reading these in the new year and will post my full review once I finish. I’ll also be hosting giveaways for both of these in the new year so be on the lookout!

Book #1

Operation Mom: My Plan to Get My Mom a Life… and a Man {Reenita M. Hora}

Book #2

Ugly {Kelly Vincent}

Don’t both of these sound wonderful??

Which of these 2 books would you be the most interested in reading?

INTERNATIONAL GIVEAWAY (3 Signed Copies) Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides {Seema Desai}

INTERNATIONAL GIVEAWAY (3 Signed Copies) Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides {Seema Desai}

Goodreads Synopsis of Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides {Seema Desai}:

What if you could…

make life easier and more fun?
create choices for yourself, even when it feels like there aren’t any?
discover something so powerful about yourself that it changes your life?
show up with more kindness, patience, and understanding, and inspire others to do the same?
make this world a better place?

It all starts with going on a journey inside yourself, to an entire world you didn’t know existed. It is about building a connection between your inner and outer worlds, so that you can do all of these things, and so much more.

Are you ready to be CONNECTED?

“Connected” is all about teaching kids and their families how to navigate their emotions. It is a practical guide to understanding powerful concepts that alleviate the stress and challenge in tough situations. The book also includes tools and tips to help children become advocates for their mental and emotional well-being in productive ways, as well as thought-provoking questions to encourage young readers to think about how these tools would be uniquely relatable to them. Written to inspire children to become empathetic leaders and creative solution-seekers, “Connected” is a book that helps them not only understand themselves better, but also those around them.

My Thoughts on Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides {Seema Desai}:

I absolutely love this book.

Is it written for children? Yes. Do I think that an adult would gain just as much out of these beautiful lessons as a child would? Absolutely yes. I speak from personal experience!

This book really breaks down all of the different types of emotions, WHY you feel these emotions, how you can CONNECT to those emotions, and how you can then take those emotions and use them to empower your feelings. It discusses “guides” and how these “guides” can help you to solve a problem by working independently or with other “guides” (a few examples of “guides” include: curiosity, balance, empathy, and strength). By staying connected to these inner guides, you will be able to problem solve and therefore work through whatever emotion you are feeling. Brilliant.

The beautiful handwritten inscription written inside of my copy!

This book teaches that every emotion is justified, every emotion is valid, and every emotion is important. Such important (and beautiful) lessons.

Perhaps my favorite section of this book is the section that gives (and explains) HOW to stay connected with your inner guides. Keeping a gratitude journal, putting things into perspective, and mentally replaying situations are just a few examples given (and thoroughly explained) on how to do this. I love that big concepts are taught in such a simplistic and child friendly way. EVERY child (and every adult!) would definitely benefit from the lessons taught in this book. What a wonderful world it would be if everyone was able to follow the lessons taught in this book!

The book itself is quite short and can easily be read in 1 sitting. Perfect for children, perfect for adults!

***Pro Tip***

Have a highlighter handy while reading. I highlighted SO MUCH of the information in this book to refer back to. Such beautiful and helpful tips! Who couldn’t use information like this??

A Conversation With Seema Desai, in Her Own Words:

What inspired you to write Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides?

 Several years ago, I found myself in quite a surprising tough spot. I felt stuck, unfulfilled, and really unhappy–despite looking like I had it all from the outside. I was not leading the life I knew I was capable of living, and importantly, I wasn’t the parent I knew I could be. I often felt angry, succumbing to punishments and time-outs in order to “gain control” of my son. I was completely disconnected from life, living in a fog of guilt, exhaustion, and depression. Desperate for help and unsure where to go or what to do, I found yoga and decided to give it a try.

I often say yoga saved my life, but what really helped my break through to my deepest joys and successes was coaching. I found coaching about three years ago, and once I began to learn incredibly powerful concepts and experience Self Actualization (all the concepts of yoga applied into real, modern life outside of the poses), I started to let go of some of the anger and guilt that had been weighing me down for so long. I couldn’t help but imbibe these concepts and infuse them into my every thought and action, and pretty soon, I was teaching my two young children about the Guides and the Guards and how they can help us or hold us back. The results were so dramatic, that I thought, “Why aren’t we teaching ALL kids these concepts?” We started to communicate with a lot more empathy, and my kids were kinder to each other and themselves when they faced challenges. Importantly, they felt empowered to hold each family member accountable in a loving way, so that we wound up connecting on a level far beyond what I ever dreamed was possible. My marriage improved, as did my relationships with people outside of my family.

When the pandemic hit, I took it as an opportunity to really drive home the concepts of the Guides and Guards, and when The Jai Jais asked me to write a book they could publish, I knew exactly what I wanted to write about.

It is my sincere hope that “Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides” helps children and their families the way it has helped mine, so that we can raise a generation of empathetic adults who lead with kindness, peace, and compassion.

What would you say would be the biggest benefit for anyone (children or adults) looking to connect with their inner guides?

The biggest benefit for the reader, regardless of age, is a greater understanding of the Self and the world around them. This understanding leads to leveling up to sustainable, lasting connections with others, and a deep sense of inner peace, purpose, and joy.

As a parent, we all want meaningful relationships with our kids–relationships filled with trust and understanding. “Connected” gives kids and their caretakers a common language by which to communicate, as well as thought-provoking questions designed to facilitate conversation and fuel connection.

Where can your book be purchased?

Amazon and Barnes and Noble, as well as Foyles and Waterstone (if you’re based in the UK).

BOOK GIVEAWAY (2 Signed Copies): What Color Is Your Brain?® {Sheila Glazov}

BOOK GIVEAWAY (2 Signed Copies): What Color Is Your Brain?® {Sheila Glazov}

I’m SO excited about today’s giveaway! This fascinating book is so interesting and I have 2 signed copies to give away! I don’t typically read nonfiction books unless the topic is something that I genuinely want to learn more about…and this topic most definitely spoke to me. I’m so glad that I read this book and I’m so excited to be able to share it with you today!

I first met Sheila Glazov years ago (2018) when I was invited to attend a meeting of the Midwest Writers Association. I met such a lovely group of authors that night and I so enjoyed listening to each of them speak of their books, their process, and all of the other aspects of writing. At the time, I had just started blogging and this group was such a wealth of information!

I loved spending the evening with all of them and was so honored to be invited to another of their meetings months later. It was at that second meeting that I listened to Sheila Glazov share her in depth expertise on the topic of brain colors and I was greatly impressed with her knowledge and passion on this subject.

Goodreads Synopsis of What Color is Your Brain?® {Sheila Glazov}:

Why do you zig while others zag? What makes you seem unique or peculiar to some people, yet similar or comforting to others?

The differences are in our personalities and how they shade our perception and affect the way we work, live, and interact. Discovering and understanding our own strengths and idiosyncrasies while adapting to others can be an overwhelming task.

In response to this common frustration, What Color Is Your Brain?® A Fun and Fascinating Approach to Understanding Yourself and Others explains the similarities and differences that impact our thoughts and actions. Rather than offer an excuse for people’s behavior, this book helps to explain why our perspectives differ from or relate to the viewpoints of others. Enjoyable, insightful, and easy-to-read, What Color Is Your Brain?® is a guide to exploring who we are, why others see us the way they do, and how the four “brain colors” or personality types play a role in our everyday lives.

Sheila Glazov has created colorful personality profiles that simplify the complex nature of our traits and talents. With its entertaining anecdotes, innovative perspectives, and resonating concepts, What Color Is Your Brain?® is a fun and fascinating book that promotes both self-awareness and acceptance of others.

Written for readers of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, this book is intended to facilitate effective communication and cooperation while minimizing frustration in numerous aspects of our everyday lives—at work and home, in dating and marital relationships, with team projects, among family members and friends, and within a mixture of other interpersonal connections.

What Color Is Your Brain?® offers the essential pieces of the puzzle that is human interaction, teaching us how to recognize and appreciate a spectrum of personality types. With the help of this dynamic book, discovering your own brain color and learning to adapt to others is bound to be a no-brainer.

My Thoughts on What Color is Your Brain?® {Sheila Glazov}:

I learned SO MUCH about myself from reading this book. After taking the quizzes, it was determined that I am a “Yellow Brainer” through and through. I don’t want to give specifics (you’ll have to read the book yourself for those) but according to the back cover, I am: responsible (YES), organized (YES), loyal (YES), and Punctual (YES). As I read more and more about the attributes that “Yellow Brainers” possess, it was glaringly obvious that this is absolutely the color for me.

Once I learned my color, it was fascinating to read about how my particular personality traits mix (and don’t mix) with others around me. I found myself analyzing my family members, friends, colleagues, and even my own children to see what colors I would define them as and was then able to see the best (and worst) ways for us to interact with each other. It opened my eyes not only as to WHY I see others and their actions the way that I do but how other people are seeing ME and why I act the way that I do.

My husband took the quizzes and it was interesting to see his responses (which unsurprisingly were almost completely different than my own)…

This book is awesome and a must read. I learned so much and most importantly, how to approach different situations with the different people in my life. I learned WHY I act and react the way I do to things, why THEY act and react the way they do to things, and how (based on our colors) we should be acting and reacting to things together. I can honestly say that there are a few people in my personal life who I now view in a different (more informative, more accepting) light. I just didn’t understand how their brains worked before…and now I do.

I told you that this topic is fascinating!

My highlighter was working in overtime while reading (told you I’m yellow brained).

I read this whole book while holding a open highlighter…so much I wanted to remember!
My entire book looks like this!

The book itself is easy to read and broken down into sections to make all of the information easy to understand. I read and highlighted the entire book cover to cover in 2 days. It’s amazing how much I learned about myself and those I love in just 2 days!

Here is an overview of the book, taken directly from Sheila Glazov’s website:

A Conversation with Sheila Glazov, in her own words:

What type of person would be the ideal reader for your book?

An ideal reader for my book is an individual who is eager to learn an engaging and  compelling methodology, which will help them understand their personality type and decode other people’s points of view to reduce the hassles and increase the harmony in their life!

What would be the biggest benefits a reader would gain from learning about their brain color?

The biggest benefits a reader will gain from learning about their Brain Color personality are:

  • Appreciation for their unique attributes, abilities, and strengths.
  • Acceptance of other people’s perspectives in order to communicate better, collaborate more, stress less, and work smarter.
  • More harmonious relationships with the adults and children in their family, romantic partners, workplace colleagues, and customers, friends, and people in their community.

Where can your book be purchased?

My book can be purchased online in paperback and/or e-book editions at

Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo.

Any additional information that you would like to provide about you or your book:

People tell me that the Brain Color theory is a remarkably powerful and simple approach to determine what make people tick. It helps them immediately, recognize, adapt, and accommodate other’s perspectives to reduces the stress and complications in their personal and professional lives. People have fun learning why some people are a pain in the neck and others are a song in their heart.

My book has sold over 35, 000 copies. The book also contains 2 Brain Color Quizzes: One for the reader’s personal life and one for their professional life. I allocates 10% of the royalties from the sale of all my books to The Raue Center For The Arts Mission Imagination children’s education program.

My 2nd Audiobook…Which Book Did I Select?

FAVORITE SEASON! FAVORITE WEATHER!
Snow Happy ❄️

I have been on the library waitlist for this one for WEEKS and my name doesn’t appear to be moving up anytime soon. My new hobby is proving yet again that audiobooks can be SO much easier to get a hold of (although you really aren’t holding anything? I digress.). As soon as I finished listening to my last audiobook, I immediately started the search for my next audiobook. I typed in the title of this one and…IT. WAS. THERE. Just waiting for me to download. It took 5 seconds. Audible FOR THE WIN.

My 2nd Audiobook:

Picture Credit: Goodreads

Goodreads Synopsis of Reminders of Him {Colleen Hoover}:

After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.

The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.

The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

I will post my thoughts as soon as I finish listening! Have you read this one? I’d love to hear your thoughts but ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS PLEASE!
