Book Giveaway (3 signed copies): Ugly {Kelly Vincent}

Book Giveaway (3 signed copies): Ugly {Kelly Vincent}

As soon as I read the synopsis of Kelly Vincent’s Ugly, I immediately knew this was a book that I wanted to read and review on Book Coffee Happy. I was so excited when I received my print copy in the mail. I love the interesting cover!

Goodreads Synopsis of Ugly {Kelly Vincent}:

Sophomore Nic Summers tries to ignore the taunts of “ugly lesbian.”

Because she’s not sure they’re entirely wrong. But she also has bigger concerns for now, including prepping for the school’s art contest. And while she isn’t certain of her sexuality, she does know her life is on the verge of falling apart when her best and only friend, Sam, drops the bomb that her family’s moving to Scotland. Together, to soften the blow and distract themselves from the inevitable, they start Operation Social Interaction for Nic—or OSIN for short—to try to find her some new friends.

But it’s an uphill battle for the introverted teen artist.

As Sam’s last day nears, Nic’s self-confidence wavers even more, and she starts questioning everything. If lesbian doesn’t feel quite right, maybe she’s transgender? It isn’t until she stumbles across the label “gender nonconforming” that things start to make a little more sense, and fall into place. But finding the right label doesn’t really tell her what to do next, and before she knows it, Sam is gone.

Mustering all her resources, Nic realizes she needs to find her own path and live her own truth.

My Thoughts on Ugly {Kelly Vincent}:

Oh this book.

I absolutely loved it. What a beautifully written story with wonderfully descriptive characters. I felt all of Nic’s emotions as well as their emotional struggles as the story went on. My heart went from smiling to breaking as I read about how people treated and reacted to Nic. This book allows the reader to feel these emotions through such a personal perspective.

The biggest emotion that I felt while reading? I just wanted to hug Nic.

I had such a hard time saying good-bye to these characters (especially Nic) when I finished reading. You know the books where you close the cover and mentally just can’t move on? That was this book for me. I’m so happy to know that Kelly Vincent is busy working on a sequel! Uglier comes out in July and I love it already.

Every teenager (and adult!) should read this book. I truly can’t recommend it enough. You will smile, you will cry, you will LEARN. This is such an important book and absolutely one of the very best I’ve read in a very long time.

For a book titled Ugly, every single thing about this book is truly beautiful.

I absolutely loved it.

A Conversation With Kelly Vincent, in Her Own Words:

What was the hardest aspect of writing Nic’s story?

This was a very personal story and revisiting things that happened in my childhood stirred up a lot of feelings I’d sort of buried. But this actually helped me write the story, because I was able to still remember how those experiences felt so I could accurately convey how Nic felt when she experienced them. So even though it was hard and got me thinking about long-buried things, it was worth it.

Without giving away spoilers, what are some takeaway messages that you hope readers will gain from reading Ugly?

You can’t always change the world and people around you, but you do have the power to change some things in your life. Sometimes it’s just a matter of thinking outside the box or being patient. As a teenager it can be hard to be patient–I remember that well–but things can change as you get more autonomy when you get older.

Where can your book be purchased?

Ugly is available at all major book retailers, including in paperback through Amazon and Barnes and Noble and in ebook for Kindle, Nook, Apple, Google Play, and Kobo. It can also possibly be ordered through your local bookstore, depending on their policies.

Any additional information that you would like to provide about you or your book:

I am getting ready to send the sequel to Ugly, currently called Uglier, out to beta readers. I plan to release it in July. I absolutely love where Nic’s story has gone–it completely surprised me. If you are interested in being a beta reader for Uglier or future books, you can contact me at kelly@kellyvincent.net. (Uglier should work as a standalone if you are interested but haven’t read Ugly.)

Blogmas 2022: INTERNATIONAL BOOK GIVEAWAY (2 Signed Copies): The Mommy Clique {Barbara Altamirano}

I have such an amazing giveaway for you today! I’m so excited to share Barbara Altamirano’s fantastic book, The Mommy Clique. I absolutely loved this book and I found these women FASCINATING…

Goodreads Synopsis of The Mommy Clique {Barbara Altamirano}:

Life in suburbia is typical and ordinary-just the same old same old. Only, not in this neighborhood. Here, the impressively large homes and pure green lawns hide a much darker reality that is far from mundane.

When Beth moves back to her hometown in Connecticut to care for her ailing mother, she is forced to confront not only the ghosts of her youth but the other mothers on her street. There is Elise, the queen bee, who determines the fate of everyone and is all-controlling. There is Kelly, Elise’s sidekick and most sycophantic supporter, who secretly longs to have a voice and power of her own. There’s Ronnie, the informer, who, with her intelligence and investigative skill, digs up dirt on the others in service to the queen. And then there’s Gail, the wannabe, who is constantly striving to feel as important and valued as the others.

Looking for some mom friends, Beth seeks a place for herself within this mommy clique. Turns out they do have an available role for her: it’s called the target.

My Thoughts on The Mommy Clique {Barbara Altamirano}:

These women are HORRIBLE. Every single one of them! It was fascinating to see how each of them stayed “friends” with the others despite knowing how completely toxic their relationships were. I couldn’t believe that not one of them had the strength to simply walk away…I would have been out the door so fast that nobody would even have had time to try to stop me, lol 😉

What I found the most interesting about this book is how often I found myself rooting for certain characters just to change my mind a chapter later.

As a mother who has seen many, MANY “Mommy Cliques” and who has been a member of “Mommy Cliques” myself (thankfully NOTHING like the clique in this book, omg), I found everything about this book simply fascinating. Any mother would be able to relate to at least one of these characters at some point while reading this book.

Moms, read this book.

This is one of those books where you read it…and then go and hug your friends tightly. It doesn’t matter what your friends are like because ANY friends in real life have GOT to be better than the “friends” in this book!

The Mommy Clique was such a quick read…you could easily devour this one in 1 or 2 days.

A Conversation With Barbara Altamirano, in Her Own Words:

What would you say are the biggest differences between the “Mommy Clique” in this book and real life “Mommy Cliques?”

Thankfully, I think real life “Mommy Cliques” are nowhere near as intense and conniving as the characters in this book. One of the first editorial reviews I received referred to the book as a suburban satire. This seems a good way to describe it since the vices of the mothers are exaggerated so that they are much worse than in real life.

Which Mommy in this book would you say you most relate to and how?

I would say I relate the most to Beth, since her personality is the closest to mine. However, I would not have continued to try to be a part of this group once I saw what they were like. I’m pretty sure I would have run the other way as fast as I could!

Where can your book be purchased?

The book can be purchased from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and at my website, barbaraaltamiranoauthor.com

INTERNATIONAL GIVEAWAY (3 Signed Copies) Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides {Seema Desai}

INTERNATIONAL GIVEAWAY (3 Signed Copies) Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides {Seema Desai}

Goodreads Synopsis of Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides {Seema Desai}:

What if you could…

make life easier and more fun?
create choices for yourself, even when it feels like there aren’t any?
discover something so powerful about yourself that it changes your life?
show up with more kindness, patience, and understanding, and inspire others to do the same?
make this world a better place?

It all starts with going on a journey inside yourself, to an entire world you didn’t know existed. It is about building a connection between your inner and outer worlds, so that you can do all of these things, and so much more.

Are you ready to be CONNECTED?

“Connected” is all about teaching kids and their families how to navigate their emotions. It is a practical guide to understanding powerful concepts that alleviate the stress and challenge in tough situations. The book also includes tools and tips to help children become advocates for their mental and emotional well-being in productive ways, as well as thought-provoking questions to encourage young readers to think about how these tools would be uniquely relatable to them. Written to inspire children to become empathetic leaders and creative solution-seekers, “Connected” is a book that helps them not only understand themselves better, but also those around them.

My Thoughts on Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides {Seema Desai}:

I absolutely love this book.

Is it written for children? Yes. Do I think that an adult would gain just as much out of these beautiful lessons as a child would? Absolutely yes. I speak from personal experience!

This book really breaks down all of the different types of emotions, WHY you feel these emotions, how you can CONNECT to those emotions, and how you can then take those emotions and use them to empower your feelings. It discusses “guides” and how these “guides” can help you to solve a problem by working independently or with other “guides” (a few examples of “guides” include: curiosity, balance, empathy, and strength). By staying connected to these inner guides, you will be able to problem solve and therefore work through whatever emotion you are feeling. Brilliant.

The beautiful handwritten inscription written inside of my copy!

This book teaches that every emotion is justified, every emotion is valid, and every emotion is important. Such important (and beautiful) lessons.

Perhaps my favorite section of this book is the section that gives (and explains) HOW to stay connected with your inner guides. Keeping a gratitude journal, putting things into perspective, and mentally replaying situations are just a few examples given (and thoroughly explained) on how to do this. I love that big concepts are taught in such a simplistic and child friendly way. EVERY child (and every adult!) would definitely benefit from the lessons taught in this book. What a wonderful world it would be if everyone was able to follow the lessons taught in this book!

The book itself is quite short and can easily be read in 1 sitting. Perfect for children, perfect for adults!

***Pro Tip***

Have a highlighter handy while reading. I highlighted SO MUCH of the information in this book to refer back to. Such beautiful and helpful tips! Who couldn’t use information like this??

A Conversation With Seema Desai, in Her Own Words:

What inspired you to write Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides?

Several years ago, I found myself in quite a surprising tough spot. I felt stuck, unfulfilled, and really unhappy–despite looking like I had it all from the outside. I was not leading the life I knew I was capable of living, and importantly, I wasn’t the parent I knew I could be. I often felt angry, succumbing to punishments and time-outs in order to “gain control” of my son. I was completely disconnected from life, living in a fog of guilt, exhaustion, and depression. Desperate for help and unsure where to go or what to do, I found yoga and decided to give it a try.

I often say yoga saved my life, but what really helped my break through to my deepest joys and successes was coaching. I found coaching about three years ago, and once I began to learn incredibly powerful concepts and experience Self Actualization (all the concepts of yoga applied into real, modern life outside of the poses), I started to let go of some of the anger and guilt that had been weighing me down for so long. I couldn’t help but imbibe these concepts and infuse them into my every thought and action, and pretty soon, I was teaching my two young children about the Guides and the Guards and how they can help us or hold us back. The results were so dramatic, that I thought, “Why aren’t we teaching ALL kids these concepts?” We started to communicate with a lot more empathy, and my kids were kinder to each other and themselves when they faced challenges. Importantly, they felt empowered to hold each family member accountable in a loving way, so that we wound up connecting on a level far beyond what I ever dreamed was possible. My marriage improved, as did my relationships with people outside of my family.

When the pandemic hit, I took it as an opportunity to really drive home the concepts of the Guides and Guards, and when The Jai Jais asked me to write a book they could publish, I knew exactly what I wanted to write about.

It is my sincere hope that “Connected: Discovering Your Inner Guides” helps children and their families the way it has helped mine, so that we can raise a generation of empathetic adults who lead with kindness, peace, and compassion.

What would you say would be the biggest benefit for anyone (children or adults) looking to connect with their inner guides?

The biggest benefit for the reader, regardless of age, is a greater understanding of the Self and the world around them. This understanding leads to leveling up to sustainable, lasting connections with others, and a deep sense of inner peace, purpose, and joy.

As a parent, we all want meaningful relationships with our kids–relationships filled with trust and understanding. “Connected” gives kids and their caretakers a common language by which to communicate, as well as thought-provoking questions designed to facilitate conversation and fuel connection.

Where can your book be purchased?

Amazon and Barnes and Noble, as well as Foyles and Waterstone (if you’re based in the UK).

BOOK GIVEAWAY (2 Signed Copies): What Color Is Your Brain?® {Sheila Glazov}

BOOK GIVEAWAY (2 Signed Copies): What Color Is Your Brain?® {Sheila Glazov}

I’m SO excited about today’s giveaway! This fascinating book is so interesting and I have 2 signed copies to give away! I don’t typically read nonfiction books unless the topic is something that I genuinely want to learn more about…and this topic most definitely spoke to me. I’m so glad that I read this book and I’m so excited to be able to share it with you today!

I first met Sheila Glazov years ago (2018) when I was invited to attend a meeting of the Midwest Writers Association. I met such a lovely group of authors that night and I so enjoyed listening to each of them speak of their books, their process, and all of the other aspects of writing. At the time, I had just started blogging and this group was such a wealth of information!

I loved spending the evening with all of them and was so honored to be invited to another of their meetings months later. It was at that second meeting that I listened to Sheila Glazov share her in depth expertise on the topic of brain colors and I was greatly impressed with her knowledge and passion on this subject.

Goodreads Synopsis of What Color is Your Brain?® {Sheila Glazov}:

Why do you zig while others zag? What makes you seem unique or peculiar to some people, yet similar or comforting to others?

The differences are in our personalities and how they shade our perception and affect the way we work, live, and interact. Discovering and understanding our own strengths and idiosyncrasies while adapting to others can be an overwhelming task.

In response to this common frustration, What Color Is Your Brain?® A Fun and Fascinating Approach to Understanding Yourself and Others explains the similarities and differences that impact our thoughts and actions. Rather than offer an excuse for people’s behavior, this book helps to explain why our perspectives differ from or relate to the viewpoints of others. Enjoyable, insightful, and easy-to-read, What Color Is Your Brain?® is a guide to exploring who we are, why others see us the way they do, and how the four “brain colors” or personality types play a role in our everyday lives.

Sheila Glazov has created colorful personality profiles that simplify the complex nature of our traits and talents. With its entertaining anecdotes, innovative perspectives, and resonating concepts, What Color Is Your Brain?® is a fun and fascinating book that promotes both self-awareness and acceptance of others.

Written for readers of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, this book is intended to facilitate effective communication and cooperation while minimizing frustration in numerous aspects of our everyday lives—at work and home, in dating and marital relationships, with team projects, among family members and friends, and within a mixture of other interpersonal connections.

What Color Is Your Brain?® offers the essential pieces of the puzzle that is human interaction, teaching us how to recognize and appreciate a spectrum of personality types. With the help of this dynamic book, discovering your own brain color and learning to adapt to others is bound to be a no-brainer.

My Thoughts on What Color is Your Brain?® {Sheila Glazov}:

I learned SO MUCH about myself from reading this book. After taking the quizzes, it was determined that I am a “Yellow Brainer” through and through. I don’t want to give specifics (you’ll have to read the book yourself for those) but according to the back cover, I am: responsible (YES), organized (YES), loyal (YES), and Punctual (YES). As I read more and more about the attributes that “Yellow Brainers” possess, it was glaringly obvious that this is absolutely the color for me.

Once I learned my color, it was fascinating to read about how my particular personality traits mix (and don’t mix) with others around me. I found myself analyzing my family members, friends, colleagues, and even my own children to see what colors I would define them as and was then able to see the best (and worst) ways for us to interact with each other. It opened my eyes not only as to WHY I see others and their actions the way that I do but how other people are seeing ME and why I act the way that I do.

My husband took the quizzes and it was interesting to see his responses (which unsurprisingly were almost completely different than my own)…

This book is awesome and a must read. I learned so much and most importantly, how to approach different situations with the different people in my life. I learned WHY I act and react the way I do to things, why THEY act and react the way they do to things, and how (based on our colors) we should be acting and reacting to things together. I can honestly say that there are a few people in my personal life who I now view in a different (more informative, more accepting) light. I just didn’t understand how their brains worked before…and now I do.

I told you that this topic is fascinating!

My highlighter was working in overtime while reading (told you I’m yellow brained).

I read this whole book while holding a open highlighter…so much I wanted to remember!
My entire book looks like this!

The book itself is easy to read and broken down into sections to make all of the information easy to understand. I read and highlighted the entire book cover to cover in 2 days. It’s amazing how much I learned about myself and those I love in just 2 days!

Here is an overview of the book, taken directly from Sheila Glazov’s website:

A Conversation with Sheila Glazov, in her own words:

What type of person would be the ideal reader for your book?

An ideal reader for my book is an individual who is eager to learn an engaging and  compelling methodology, which will help them understand their personality type and decode other people’s points of view to reduce the hassles and increase the harmony in their life!

What would be the biggest benefits a reader would gain from learning about their brain color?

The biggest benefits a reader will gain from learning about their Brain Color personality are:

  • Appreciation for their unique attributes, abilities, and strengths.
  • Acceptance of other people’s perspectives in order to communicate better, collaborate more, stress less, and work smarter.
  • More harmonious relationships with the adults and children in their family, romantic partners, workplace colleagues, and customers, friends, and people in their community.

Where can your book be purchased?

My book can be purchased online in paperback and/or e-book editions at

Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo.

Any additional information that you would like to provide about you or your book:

People tell me that the Brain Color theory is a remarkably powerful and simple approach to determine what make people tick. It helps them immediately, recognize, adapt, and accommodate other’s perspectives to reduces the stress and complications in their personal and professional lives. People have fun learning why some people are a pain in the neck and others are a song in their heart.

My book has sold over 35, 000 copies. The book also contains 2 Brain Color Quizzes: One for the reader’s personal life and one for their professional life. I allocates 10% of the royalties from the sale of all my books to The Raue Center For The Arts Mission Imagination children’s education program.

Nattie’s mouth was a little crooked. Her legs were a bit shorter than usual, and one horn was too straight, like a unicorn’s horn. But Mia thought Nattie was perfect.

In a read-aloud picture book for children who love animals, award-winning writer and sheep breeder Marlene M. Bell presents Nattie the lamb’s true story. MIA AND NATTIE is a heartwarming book that teaches readers about problem-solving, teamwork, and love.

On a visit to her grandma’s farm, eight-year-old Mia discovers a newborn, orphaned lamb outside in the cold and takes her to the laundry room, naming her Nattie. As she tries to nurse the lamb back to health, Mia discovers that Nattie is different from the other lambs and struggles to fit in with them like Mia does with other kids her age.

When her grandmother says she will sell Nattie to a neighbor, Mia must come up with a plan to keep her friend around—one that will show the family just how special Nattie truly is.

My Thoughts on Mia and Nattie: One Great Team {Marlene M. Bell}:

When my husband walked into our kitchen and handed me the package that had come in the mail that day, I eagerly ripped it open and pulled out this beautiful book! BOTH of my kids immediately grabbed it from my hands and asked me to read it with them. I think this book might hold the record for length of time it took me from receiving it to reading it…I legitimately started reading this book within 10 seconds of me opening it’s package 🙂

With each turn of the page, my kids and I fell more and more in love with this beautiful story.

This is a story of friendship, inclusivity, and confidence. This is a story of not giving up on friends, and believing in the power of helpfulness. This is a BEAUTIFUL story. I had tears in my eyes as I was reading this aloud to my kids and it led to a really powerful discussion once we had turned the last page.

Although Nattie wasn’t perfect, she was an important member of this farm with an important job. Mia was able to see right through her flaws and found her the most perfect job of all. Just as Nattie didn’t seem to fit in with the other sheep on the farm, Mia didn’t seem to fit in with the other children of her age. Together they were able to find a way of fitting in and realizing the importance each had and the gifts each possessed. What a powerful life lesson. I truly love this book so much 🙂

The pictures in this book are STUNNING. Look at how adorable and colorful these pictures are! As we were reading, both of my children commented on how cute the pictures were. Here are a few of our favorites:

Here is a trailer of the book straight from the author’s website:

So beautiful, right???

I have corresponded with MANY authors over the years and I must say that Marlene M. Bell is LOVELY. She’s so kind and so generous. I adore her book and knowing what a wonderful person the author is makes me adore her beautiful book even more 🙂 I’m so happy to be able to share this wonderful book with you today.

Each book that I’m giving away today will be signed by Marlene Bell 🙂

A Conversation with Marlene M. Bell, in her own words:

What ages would be the ideal readers for your book?

That will depend upon if the youngster is reading the book alone, or if someone is reading to them out loud. Ages 4 to 8 is the most Ideal for reading Mia and Nattie without an adult to answer questions.

How did you create the idea for your book?

The idea for the picture book came naturally because Natalie used to be our nanny and babysit the bottle lambs we had each lambing season. She fell into the job by accident. Natalie was alone because she was too small to run with the other sheep. Because lambs like to pal around with others, I didn’t worry about the bottle lambs who had lost their mothers being alone outdoors when I couldn’t be there. Natalie (Nattie in the book,) was alone too, so she also liked to stay close to the baby lambs. She acted like their mom when I wasn’t around. It was a good arrangement for everyone!

What life lessons do you hope children (and adults!) will take away from Mia and Nattie?

No matter how small or different we are from each other, we all have our own special gifts and belong together. Love without limits and receive love in return.

Where can your book be purchased?

BLOGMAS: GIVEAWAY {Amazon Gift Card}! Book Coffee Happy Readers Are The KINDEST!

BLOGMAS: GIVEAWAY {Amazon Gift Card}! Book Coffee Happy Readers Are The KINDEST!

💗

Oh I’m so blown away.

Blog readers have sent me gifts in the past. Books, candles, bookmarks, and more! Every single time it happens, I’m completely blown away. How wonderful are people? More specifically, how wonderful are my blog readers???

I received this message last week and it touched my heart.

And then today…OMG. Look what arrived in my mailbox!

THE CHRISTMAS BOOKSHOP! I had written about how much I wanted it in THIS POST but was unable to find myself a copy. And the most beautiful magnetic page markers! I cannot believe the kindness of this blog reader whom I have never even met!

I can’t even put into words how much this means to me.

Writing this blog and introducing people to their new favorite books is my passion. I love my little hobby so much! I’ve learned an incredible amount (I have created and have successfully maintained a website all on my own…if you know me in real life, this is a very big deal, lol), I’ve met some WONDERFUL people, and I have been able to share my most favorite hobby with the world. I’ve had people tell me that I’ve turned them into READERS. How amazingly special is that?!?

The fact that I make money off of my blog is purely icing on the cake for me. It’s a great perk…but obviously not why I write this blog. I write this blog because it’s FUN! The minute it stops being fun is the minute I stop writing. Simple as that 🙂

People on the Internet can be MEAN. It’s easy to hide behind a screen and be judgmental, catty, and awful. There are entire websites devoted to the sole purpose of breaking down bloggers, gossiping about bloggers, and speculating about bloggers. Admittingly this is the reason it took me YEARS to start writing a blog although it was something I had wanted to do for so long. I didn’t want people being mean to me over something that is my fun hobby! I wanted the type of blog where people can visit just for fun. No drama. I will say…3 years into blogging and my blog readers have been nothing but kind, LOVELY, supportive, and wonderful. The comments I receive on blog posts and social media have ALWAYS been so kind! Even when people disagree with my thoughts on a book, etc….their comments are ALWAYS respectful which is exactly what I would hope they would be. I don’t WANT people to always agree with my opinions…how boring would that be?!? I absolutely love when we can have an honest and open discussion whether we are on the same side of an opinion or not. THAT is what a great blog is….the kind that can start a wonderful discussion with different opinions. For Book Coffee Happy, I find this type of discussion happens most often on Facebook. I love it! Especially when I post on the weekends asking what everyone is reading. So many people give such great suggestions all the time and I love seeing all of you interact with each other.

In 3 years of blogging, I have only had 1 negative experience and I will say….MAN did those people RIP ME TO SHREADS. But it was ok because I stood my ground, held my own, and felt strongly that I didn’t do anything wrong. It was years ago…I had written a blog post titled “One of the Worst Books I Have Ever Read.” I am a member of a Facebook group for bloggers and authors and I had shared my blog post on there. HOLY HELL did people come at me! They did NOT like that I had publicly written a negative review of a book! Many, many, many bloggers only publish positive reviews on their blog and if that works for them….awesome. I knew from the very beginning that I would not be doing that. I want my blog to be HONEST. Always. If I love a book, I have no problem sharing my opinion but if I hate a book, I also have no problem sharing my opinion. I know a lot of people don’t agree with this, but I really have strong feelings about it. I will never tell you that I love a book if I don’t. Over the years you have come to know me and to know my opinions on books. Many of you trust me and my opinions and I take that trust seriously! I will always and forever share my feelings and opinions both positive AND negative. If you want to read a blog where every single review is a positive one, this is most definitely NOT the blog for you ;). Those people in that Facebook group were RUTHLESS and the one and only thing I can say is that those were random strangers on Facebook….NOT my blog readers! My readers would never be that mean to me! Luckily, I’m pretty tough and in the end I took it as a COMPLIMENT that people were angry because I’m HONEST. (You can read that original blog post that sparked all of that HERE. And for what it’s worth, that book was quite literally and still IS quite literally one of the very worst books I’ve ever read. So there’s that).

I have some amazing ideas for the future of my blog and I can’t wait to share them with you! Thank you from the very bottom of my heart for your love, your support, and your kindness. Please keep interacting, commenting, and sharing. I’m really proud of this little book community that I have created! Thank you so much for being a part of it. You are very important and very special to me 🙂

BOOK GIVEAWAY (5 Copies) Open to US and International Readers! The Seven Day Switch {Kelly Harms}

I am so happy to welcome guest blogger Melissa Amster from Chick Lit Central back to Book Coffee Happy today! I always love working with Melissa. If you haven’t checked out her lovely book blog, you absolutely must! Hers was the very first book blog I ever read and she definitely was one of the inspirations for me to start blogging myself. We have a GREAT book (and giveaway!) for you today! Thank you so much, Melissa, for sharing an Advance Reader’s Copy of The Seven Day Switch by Kelly Harms with me this past spring.

Goodreads Synopsis of The Seven Day Switch {Kelly Harms}:

Celeste Mason is the Pinterest stay-at-home supermom of other mothers’ nightmares. Despite her all-organic, SunButter-loving, free-range kids, her immaculate home, and her volunteering awards, she still has time to relax with a nice glass of pinot at the end of the day. The only thing that ruins it all is her workaholic, career-obsessed neighbor, who makes no secret of what she thinks of Celeste’s life choices every chance she gets.

Wendy Charles is a celebrated productivity consultant, columnist, and speaker. On a minute-by-minute schedule, she makes the working-mom hustle look easy. She even spends at least one waking hour a day with her kids. She’s not apologizing for a thing. Especially to Celeste, who plays her superior parenting against Wendy whenever she can.

Who do Celeste and Wendy think they are? They’re about to find out thanks to one freaky week. After a neighborhood potluck and too much sangria, they wake up—um, what?—in each other’s bodies. Everything Celeste and Wendy thought they knew about the “other kind of mom” is flipped upside down—along with their messy, complicated, maybe not so different lives.

Jenny Share’s Review:

I read (and loved!) The Bright Side of Going Dark by Kelly Harms a few months back (you can the synopsis and my review HERE) and was so excited to read her newest book The Seven Day Switch. She has such an easy to read, easy to love style of writing and I am a BIG fan. I had a pretty good feeling about this book before I even opened to the first page and I’m so happy that my first thoughts turned out to be correct.

I absolutely loved this wonderful book.

This book should be required reading for every parent out there! You truly don’t ever know what somebody else is going through and what that person chooses to reveal to the world does not in fact always tell the entire story.

This book has made me look at so many people in my life in a whole different light and has made me wonder about what is going on in their lives that I am not privy to.

“Mommy Wars” are a very real thing and moms are constantly comparing themselves to each other. STOP THAT! The decisions that you make for your own family should never be compared to decisions that somebody else is making for her own family.

I recently came upon this quote and it really spoke to me:

“Your kids don’t care what other moms are doing.”

How incredibly true is that? Your kids really don’t care what other moms are doing as long as you are doing the right thing for them. Parenting doesn’t come with an instruction manual and what is right for one family may not be right for the next.

This book really spoke directly to my heart and if you are a mother, it will speak to yours too! Every mother will be able to identify with at least something within these pages. The characters, the storylines, the messages…I truly loved this beautiful book so very much.

***I would be absolutely remiss if I didn’t say the following. Those who know me in real life know that I am a HUGE advocate of breastfeeding. Extended breastfeeding (breastfeeding toddlers) is normal, beautiful, and something that I did with both of my children. As much as I love this book, I did not love the negative connotation that came with this particular storyline. For a book about breaking judgmental parenting barriers, this storyline was clearly negative against parents who choose to feed and nurture their children in this way. I really wish that this particular storyline and all that went along with it could have been written with a bit more objectivity.***

Melissa Amster’s Review:

I’m always a fan of surreal stories, where you have to suspend disbelief. So the premise of The Seven Day Switch was definitely up my alley before I even opened it! And what was inside was even better than what I was expecting. Even though the topic of switching minds has been done before, such as in Freaky Friday, Kelly Harms puts a fun and refreshing spin on it, while also emphasizing the importance of balance in one’s life. As soon as I read just one chapter, I knew I had to tell my friend who runs Balanced Working Moms on Facebook about it. And, of course, I knew this book would be perfect for Jenny and I was not only excited for her to read it, but also to review it together at her blog.

I really liked and identified with both Wendy and Celeste in different ways. I enjoyed seeing them navigate each others’ lives and the things they did to try to help each other out, even if it wasn’t always with the best of intentions. There was one part I didn’t agree with at first, but I’m glad it was recognized and hashed out between the two women. Wendy’s son reminded me so much of my younger son. (Even Celeste’s son was similar to him in some ways.) I think, personally, I am more of a Wendy. However, I am thankful to have a relationship with my husband and kids that is more on par with Celeste. There were a lot of great moments, as well as some humorous ones. It’s always tricky to write about one character living another character’s life, but Kelly did this flawlessly throughout the novel.

This was a sweet and touching story that I definitely recommend!

Movie casting suggestions:

Wendy: Piper Perabo

Celeste: Ginnifer Goodwin

Seth: Alexander Skarsgård

Davis: Sam Page

Hugh: James Roday Rodriguez

Ruthie: Mary Elizabeth Ellis
