Blogmas 2023: Non Holiday Audiobook Review: The Missing Husband {Natasha Boydell}

New candle holder. Obsessed.

This is the 2nd Natasha Boydell book I’ve listened to as an audiobook. You can read my (scathing) review of The Woman Next Door HERE (or maybe don’t….).

Goodreads Synopsis of The Missing Husband {Natasha Boydell}:

Kate and Pete have been the perfect couple ever since they were teenagers. Fifteen years later they have two young daughters, live in a beautiful London townhouse and seem like they have it all. But one day, Pete leaves for work and never comes home.

In a note Kate discovers, he confesses that he’s been unhappy for a long time and that he’s met someone else.

Distraught, Kate later learns that he has left everything, including his mobile phone, behind and sets out to learn the truth about her husband’s disappearance.

But is she prepared for what she will learn?

When nothing is as it seems, who can you trust?

Non Holiday Audiobook Review of The Missing Husband {Natasha Boydell}:

Well I liked this one much more than The Woman Next Door so I’ll give it that.

The Woman Next Door was boring…aaaaand so was The Missing Husband. In fact, 95 % of this book is NOT a psychological thriller. The twists came right at the end but until then, it was just…a story. Not twisty, not deep, just…a story. Does that make sense?

I had lots of predictions and none of them ended up being correct which I love BUT what I DON’T love is that I think my predictions would have made a better story 😉

I HATED, HATED, HATED the voices of the children. Audiobooks are weird, the narrator often has to do many different voices. I didn’t mind the voices that she gave the other adults but the voices that she used for the kids? It was like listening to the most annoying children’s’ cartoon voices over and over (think Calliou…IYKYK)

Overall this book was fine, eh. I never really cared about any of the characters, so I never really cared about what happened to any of them.

Side Note: Three main female characters all with similar sounding names. Claire, Kate, Karen. How stupid is that??? Like, there are millions and millions of names in this world…why pick similar sounding ones to confuse your readers?

Book Coffee Happy Epilogue:

Forgettable characters, forgettable storylines…moving on.

Have you read this book? What did you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

My 400th Blog Post, Another Delicious Cookie, and a Book That I Hated

My 400th Blog Post, Another Delicious Cookie, and a Book That I Hated

This is officially Book Coffee Happy’s 400th blog post! Thank you for supporting me and my little hobby…I really love writing this blog and I’m so thankful for YOU!

A link to my very first blog post. It’s super impersonal, lol: The Woman in The Window {A.J. Finn}

Crumbl Cookies, You Have My Heart

My most recent Crumbl Cookies indulgence (caramel cake served warm). I wish I could say it was a treat to celebrate my 400 post but alas, just a random dessert, lol. Whyyyyyyy did this bakery have to open up so close to my house??? Ridiculous.

In the passenger seat just eating a monstrosity of a cookie and protecting my clothes with a paper towel while my husband drives. Classy.

I Hated This Book

I really wish this book was as delightful of an experience for me as devouring that delicious cookie. It was not.

The Woman Next Door {Natasha Boydell}

Photo Credit goes to Amazon because I listened to this one as an audiobook

Goodreads Synopsis of The Woman Next Door {Natasha Boydell}:

Two neighbours struggle with envy of each other’s lives—and as their friendship grows, their questions do too . . .

Sophie is a happily married mum of two who considers herself lucky—until her beautiful and highly successful new neighbour Angie moves in along with her charming husband and four talented children. The two women couldn’t be more different, but after a storm brings them together, an unlikely friendship develops. As their children grow closer, so does their bond.

But the alliance between the families is a wake-up call for both women. Angie’s success makes Sophie consider whether she really is as satisfied as she makes out. And Sophie’s uncomplicated marriage forces Angie to look at her own and accept that it’s not as perfect as it seems. Both women vow to change.

But their decisions may not lead where they expect, in this absorbing novel about risks and relationships by the author of The Missing Husband that explores whether the grass is always greener on the other side of the garden fence . . .

My Review of The Woman Next Door {Natasha Boydell}:

So…I pretty much hated this book.

It was just so boring! I kept waiting for something (annnnything) to happen but it really never did. Eventually there was a “big” plot twist but it fell short because it was so completely predictable. This. Book. Was. So. Boring.

I really disliked so many of the characters and found myself not caring what happened to any of them as the story went on…not a good way to feel while reading (listening to) a book. Ugh.

I listened to this one as an Audiobook and I must say…listening to someone actually FROM the country where the story takes place adds such a wonderful dimension. And that’s pretty much the only nice thing I have to say about this book 🙂

Bottom Line:

I just wanted it to end.

Have you read this book? What did you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Happy Friday! I hope your weekend if filled with love, BOOKS, and Crumbl Cookies!

Sprained Ankle.

Well that was quite the unintentional break that I took from blogging! Ugh. It’s been…well it’s been a bit stressful for me over here and unfortunately blogging just kind of took a back burner for the past few weeks. I’m so sorry! The catalyst for all of the stress is that I sprained my ankle last month and it’s made me quite sad. I wish I had some big elaborate story of how it happened but alas, I do not. I was walking towards a book (always) and I fell down a stair. In my own house. A stair that has been there since we bought the house 12 years ago. I was so laser focused on the book (again, always) that I simply forgot about the stair. I flew across the room and absolutely nothing about the scenario was graceful or feminine. So for the past 4 weeks, I’ve been elevating and icing my poor ankle 3 times a day. It’s SO much better but still very much healing. I’m totally ok! I’ve still been out and about, working, etc. just trying not to overdo it.

Although I have most definitely been out and about, pretty much anytime I’ve been home I’ve been doing the good ol’ icing and elevating (I’m still doing this 3 times each day). Here are some glamorous scenes from the past month, lol:

**NOTE: The above pictures were all taken within the first two weeks of my injury and I was using frozen peas like a boss. However, I have since ordered an AMAZING little contraption off of Amazon and I highly recommend it! Much better and fancier than the peas! I tried to link it for you but Amazon says it’s now unavailable. Aaaaand now my book blog has turned into a medical device discussion. Lovely.**

If you are new blog reader, you should know that this definitely happens to me more often that it should. Since I have started blogging, I have broken my elbow (story HERE) and broken my toe (story HERE). One miiiiiiiight call me clumsy. That’s not true….EVERYONE calls me clumsy. Lord.

Like I said, I am feeling SO much better and I even wore high heels for the first time since all of this happened! Saturday night was the best night filled with love and support for the beautiful Lisa Barr. I feel so honored that I was invited to her amazing book launch party! I will definately elaborate on this party and all of it’s amazingness in a future blog post but for now, here’s a photo of me from the party (wearing big girl high heels with a bum ankle, lol):

(If you haven’t yet read Lisa’s newest book, it’s a MUST READ. Here is a link to my blog post all about it: Book Review: Woman On Fire {Lisa Barr})

The GOOD news is that being off of my feet has given me PLENTY of time to read! I’ve read 3 books and have listened to 3 audiobooks since I fell! I will work on writing and getting those reviews posted ASAP.

Book I’m Currently Reading:

Goodreads Synopsis of The Paris Apartment {Lucy Foley}:

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has. Ben’s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question.

The socialite – The nice guy – The alcoholic – The girl on the verge – The concierge

Everyone’s a neighbor. Everyone’s a suspect. And everyone knows something they’re not telling.

I’ll let you know how both of these books are once I finish reading and listening!

And because this post isn’t all over the place enough, here is a photo of the most delicious candle that is lit next to me as I’m typing. I randomly bought it from Charming Charlie’s in Water Tower Place on Michigan Avenue a few months ago but am lighting it for the first time right now! It’s truly divine (see what I did there?!)
