Blogmas 2022: Smash or Pass Book Tag

Blogmas 2022: Smash or Pass Book Tag

Happy Hanukkah!

I originally saw this book tag on One Book More and knew that I wanted to participate! Let’s GO!

Smash or Pass Book Tag:

Bookish Tropes

Eh not a huge fan of the overdone ones so overall PASS. Enemies to lovers, love triangles, etc.

Alternating POV

Smash but only if it’s done in a way that isn’t annoying or confusing. This one is a hard one to get right but when an author does, it’s a wonderful way to read a book!

Ambiguous Endings

PASS. Authors, please wrap up every single storyline and tie everything together with a beautiful bow. This also applies to series finales of television shows. Please and thank you.

Non/Fiction

Smash! I love non fiction and have turned to books throughout my life. HERE is my list of non fiction recommendations for pregnancy, new parents, baby showers, etc.!

Historical Setting

Smash. 5 that instantly come to mind are THIS BOOK, THIS BOOK, THIS BOOK, THIS BOOK, and THIS BOOK (click each link to read the book synopsis and my full review). Absolutely loved them all!

Morally Grey Characters

Smash. Love them, especially when they switch back and forth and ESPECIALLY in thrillers! The best!

First Person POV

Smash. When done well, I love reading books with a first person POV.

Audiobooks

Overall smash BUT there are aspects of it that are most definitely pass! I explain allll my feelings about audiobooks (good and bad) in THIS POST.

Re-Reading

Pass. I mean, I’ve done it but overall I would rather enjoy a new-to-me book than go back and reread one.

Classic Novels

SMASH when I was younger but PASS now that I’m older, lol. I used to LOVE to read classic novels (I once filled an entire binder with my thoughts and feelings on The Catcher In The Rye‘s characters, plot, settings, etc. when I was in high school just for fun)…

Annotating

Pass. Haven’t actually done this since college.

Cracking Book Spines

SMAAAAAAASH! I crack pretty much every book that I read. Always. Love it. And I dog ear, too…

Smut

SMASH. ALL. DAY. I looooooooove hot smutty sex scenes (add THAT to things I wasn’t planning on saying on the Internet today). Some of the hottest sex scenes I’ve read are in THIS BOOK and I loved every second (and aside from the hot sex scenes that book is just awesome in every way….a definite must read).

Character Driven Books

HARD. PASS. I typically enjoy plot driven books a million times more than character driven books…

Past/Present Split Timeline

Again, when done correctly this is a wonderful way to tell a story. However, I’ve found that there is a fine line between doing this correctly vs confusing the reader…

Heavy World Building

HARD. PASS. Not much more for me to say about this other than just…NOT. FOR. ME.

If you just read this book tag, consider yourself tagged! Please link back to me if you post on your blog. If you don’t have a blog, feel free to answer any of these in the comments…I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Blogmas 2022: Winter Wonderland Book Tag

Blogmas 2022: Winter Wonderland Book Tag

Obsessed with this mug.

Ooooh I love a good book tag and I haven’t completed one in a while! I originally saw this one on Gem’s Book Nook and knew I wanted to participate!

WHAT BOOK IS SO HAPPY AND SWEET THAT IT WARMS YOUR HEART?

THIS BOOK. It’s perfection.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK WITH A WHITE COVER?

Room by Emma Donoghue. One of the most powerful books I’ve ever read. You can read my review HERE (one of the very first blog posts I ever wrote)

YOU’RE SITTING IN A NICE COMFY CHAIR, WEARING A ONESIE, WITH A LOVELY WARM HOT CHOCOLATE BUT WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING?

Chocolate gives me migraines so I haven’t had chocolate in YEARS. Replace hot chocolate with coffee and this scene sounds just lovely :). And I would be reading the perfect wintery book series…either The Winter Street series by Elin Hilderbrand (read my thoughts HERE) or the Winter series by Joanne Demaio (read my thoughts HERE).

Fun Fact: Elin Hilderbrand’s name is pronounced “Ellen”. I had mentioned on Instagram a few weeks ago that I wasn’t sure how to pronounce it and she responded that it’s pronounced “Ellen”…aaaaand that she blames her mother, lol 😉

IT STARTED SNOWING SO YOU DECIDED TO HAVE A SNOWBALL FIGHT! WHAT FICTIONAL CHARACTER WOULD YOU LOVE TO HAVE THE SNOWBALL FIGHT WITH?

Becky Bloomwood! Definitely Becky Bloomwood. I’ve never wanted to become best friends with a book character like I’ve wanted to become best friends with her. If you don’t know who I’m talking about, you can read my review of her adorable book series HERE!

SADLY, YOUR FIRE IS BEGINNING TO GO OUT. SO WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU TEAR THE LAST FEW CHAPTERS OUT TO THROW INTO THE FIRE?

Landline. I’d toss the whole book in there, not just the last few chapters. You can read my (non glowing, lol) review of that book HERE. Side Note: longtime blog readers will remember that this was the post that caused alllllll the drama on Instagram a few years ago because I titled my post “One of The Worst Books I Have Ever Read” (I stand by my choice of words).

If you are reading this, consider yourself tagged! I’d love for you to tag me in your post so I can read your answers!

BLOGMAS: The Holiday Drinks Book Tag

BLOGMAS: The Holiday Drinks Book Tag

I saw this book tag on Carla Loves to Read and thought it was so cute! In reality the only drink on here that I would actually drink would be a Gingerbread Latte but it’s such a festive book tag for this time of year so I’ll just go with it 🙂

Carla recommended all holiday books on hers but I’m going to recommend a little of both on mine! Some holiday, some non holiday!

As I’m typing this, I’m drinking my usual coffee with Splenda and Half and Half. So boring. These drinks sound way more fun 🙂 At least I’m drinking from one of my most favorite mugs:

The Holiday Drinks Book Tag

Hot Chocolate: Marshmallows and chocolate and whipped cream, oh my! Recommend a book that’s sweet through and through.

Definitely the book series that I’m reading now! It’s so wonderful, adorable and SWEET! You can read all about it HERE.

Peppermint Mocha: The flavor of peppermint is strong and distinct. Recommend a book with a lot of strong emotions.

I read this book MANY years ago and I still think about it. Omg. If you can make it through the beginning (it’s painfully boring), the rest of the book is AMAZING. HERE is a link to when I talked about it on my blog years ago!

Apple Cider: It’s so good it can’t be good for you, but it’s made from apples—that means it’s healthy, right? Recommend a book full of characters with questionable morals.

Oh THIS BOOK is perfect for characters with “questionable morals”. Pretty much every character in this book has questionable morals!

Eggnog: It’s creamy and smooth, with a little spice, and some people even add alcohol to it. Recommend a book that’s mostly fun, with just a hint of danger.

So I’m not sure if this books even fits this description that well but I just loved THIS BOOK so much that I want to include it! It’s DEFINITELY fun and I guess could have possible hints of danger? Whatever…just read this book, it’s great (and one of the few books that Reese Witherspoon and I actually agree on, lol)

Gingerbread latte: A drink with a veritable explosion of spices. Recommend a book with a lot of action.

THIS BOOK. Hands down. It’s AWESOME.

Such a fun book tag! Thanks again to Carla for posting! If you would like to participate, make sure you link back to me so I can read your responses OR put your answers in the comment section below. Have fun and Happy Saturday 🙂

Autumnal Book Blog Tag

Ooooh I do love a good book blog tag! As soon as I saw this one on A Little But Alot, I knew I wanted to participate! I absolutely LOVE autumn…LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Candles, pumpkins, scarves, creepiness, all of it! Today is the official first day of fall (!!!) so when is a better time to post this? HAPPY FALL, YA’LL!!!

The Autumnal Book Blog Tag

Are there any books you plan on reading over the autumn season?

OH YES. Snuggled under a warm blanket, coffee in hand, and with leaves falling around me. YES PLEASE. I have a bunch sitting here just waiting for me to read! I’ll keep you posted on titles as I read them!

September brings back to school memories: what book did you most enjoy studying? And what were your favourite and least favourite school subjects?

I absolutely LOVED reading The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger when I was in high school. I will always and forever have a copy of this book on my bookshelf!

Favorite Subject: Reading/Language Arts/English

Least Favorite Subject: Math

October means Halloween: do you enjoy scary books and films? If so what are some of your favourites?

YES! Scary books are AWESOME! HERE is a link to one that I absolutely loved reading. Highly recommend!

As for movies, I’m really not a big movie girl. Give me a book over a movie any day! However, I finally watched Hocus Pocus last year for the very first time (I know, I know) and I absolutely loved it. I’m thinking I might need to rewatch it each fall! So good!

With November it’s time for bonfire night and firework displays. What’s the most exciting book you’ve read that really kept you gripped?

I read THIS BOOK a few weeks ago and I was literally gripped from page 1. AWESOME BOOK. My heart is still pounding.

What book is your favourite cosy comfort read?

I VERY rarely reread books once I’ve read them. As far as favorite cozy comfort reads…I think just the ACT of reading is cozy and a comfort to me :).

Curled up with a good book, what is your hot drink of choice?

I mean, if you have ever read my blog AT ALL or even are just familiar my blog’s name….I really don’t need to answer this. Moving on…

Any plans you’re looking forward to over the next few months?

YES! Book Coffee Happy will be participating in Blogmas this year!

Whoo hoo!!!! I’ve been wanting to participate in this for 3 years and finally feel like I’m ready to commit! The definition of Blogmas according to Google:

Throughout December, many bloggers take part in a tradition called Blogmas, in which they post on their blog every day in December up until Christmas Day.

I will fill you in on allllll of the details (and specifically how Book Coffee Happy will be participating) as the time gets closer. I’m so excited to finally be able to participate! Stay tuned 🙂

If you have a blog and would like to complete this book tag, please tag me so I can see your answers! If you don’t have a blog but would like to participate, I’d love to read your answers in the comments below!

The Guilty Reader Book Tag

I saw The Guilty Reader Book Tag on Zeezee With Books and immediately knew I wanted to participate! This was a fun one to do! Thanks so much for posting, Zeezee! If you haven’t yet checked out Zeezee’s lovely blog HERE is a link 🙂

Without even thinking about it, I recently gave myself a French braid while reading. Does anyone else do this??? I do this all the time while reading, lol…

The Guilty Reader Book Tag

HAVE YOU EVER REGIFTED A BOOK YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN?

I find that I hardly ever want to read a book that someone gives to me. While I SO appreciate the kind gesture, choosing a book to read is such a personal decision. Rarely are books given to me that are actually books I want to read! I don’t gift them to others for this exact reason but I do try my best to find them good homes. I give away my books during my annual garage sale and I LOVE to donate to Little Free Libraries.

HAVE YOU EVER SAID YOU’VE READ A BOOK WHEN YOU HAVEN’T?

Nope! In case you haven’t yet figured it out…I really, really love to read 😉

HAVE YOU EVER BORROWED A BOOK AND NOT RETURNED IT?

No but people have done this to me and it’s AWFUL. If you borrow a book from someone, please always return it! I’ve actually recently stopped loaning out my books because of exactly this.

HAVE YOU EVER READ A SERIES OUT OF ORDER?

Only once and it was a total mistake! I read THIS BOOK and only when I finished did I realize it’s #2 in a series. Oops. I loved that book so much that I must go back and read book #1 at some point! I’ve heard it’s wonderful!

HAVE YOU EVER SPOILED A BOOK FOR SOMEONE?

NO NO NO NO NO. NEVER EVER. NOT EVEN ONE TIME. HELL NO. HARD PASS. You can read more about my thoughts on this and why I will NEVER spoil anything on my blog (or in my life) HERE.

HAVE YOU EVER DOG EARED A BOOK?

Every single day, lol. Read about it HERE.

HAVE YOU EVER TOLD SOMEONE YOU DON’T OWN A BOOK WHEN YOU DO?

Nope!

HAVE YOU EVER TOLD SOMEONE YOU HAVEN’T READ A BOOK WHEN YOU HAVE?

Ummm why would anyone do that?

HAVE YOU EVER SKIPPED A CHAPTER OR A SECTION OF A BOOK?

NEVER. I read every single word every single time. I see other bloggers who say things like, “I skimmed the middle few chapters” and it blows my mind every single time. Why read a book just to skip over parts of it? If you do this, I’d love hear your reasoning!

HAVE YOU EVER BAD MOUTHED A BOOK YOU ACTUALLY LIKED?

No but if you read my blog for any length of time than you are WELL aware that I have bad mouthed plenty of books that I hated, lol. I pride myself on always sharing my truest feelings on books…good and bad! For example, my review of one of the worst books that I have ever read can be found HERE.

If you are reading this, consider yourself tagged! If you do particapate on your blog, please tag me so I can see your answers!

**I’ll be back here on Wednesday with a review of a WONDERFUL book!**

Readers, I’d love to hear your answers to some or all of these questions from this book tag in the comments below!

My 2nd Sunshine Blogger Award

Hi ❤️

WHAT IS THE SUNSHINE BLOGGER AWARD?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is given to those who are creative, positive and inspiring while spreading sunshine to the blogging community.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

A huge thank you to Mani from Mani’s Book Corner for this nomination! If you have yet to check out her lovely blog, you must! She’s such a nice person and her book blog is wonderful.

My Answers to Mani’s Questions:

1. What’s the biggest book you have read?

Probably THIS BOOK…which is absolutely one of the very best books I’ve ever read!

2. What was your favourite book when you were a kid?

The Baby-Sitters Club! I read every single one and LOVED them all. Team Claudia and Stacey forever 🙂 My daughter is reading the graphic novels now and she’s obsessed with them!

3. What’s the last film/TV show you watched?

iCarly! My daughter and I are working our way through the series before the reboot comes out next week! She’s already watched the whole series but is rewatching them with me. We snuggle up in my bed whenever we can fit in an episode. Love it!

4. Would you accept a job as a librarian in an haunted library?

Hard pass.

5. What would be the title of the book based on your life?

Happiness 🙂

6. If they make a movie based on your life, who would you cast as actor/actress for your role?

Not just the actress but the character: Beverly Goldberg from The Goldbergs. Hands down. I feel her in my soul.

7. Who is your absolute favourite writer?

Oh man I don’t have just one! A few that I love: Gabrielle Zevin (she wrote the VERY best book I’ve ever read!), Claire Lombardo (read THIS BOOK), and Liane Moriarty (but only sometimes…read my thoughts on my love/hate relationship with her HERE).

8. Are you keeping up with your 2021 New Year’s Resolutions? (it doesn’t have to be reading goals)

I’m proud to say that I am! Both blog related and personal 😉

9. Is there a book you keep saying “One day I will read it” but you never do?

Love in the Time of Cholora! I’ve owned it and have been wanting to read it for years! Read my thoughts on why HERE.

10. Can you name an underrated book you read and loved?

THIS BOOK. I loved it so much and am shocked it’s not more popular?

11. What’s one movie you want to be novelized?

Eh. None? I would never watch a move and then read the book….but I ALWAYS read the book and then watch the movie! And truth be told, I’m actually not a big movie fan. I’d much rather read a book or watch a tv show.

I nominate:

Anyone who would like to participate! Please tag me so I can read your answers 🙂 Mani’s questions were great so I will keep them for you to answer. Aaaaaaand I didn’t have a Sunshine Blogger logo to use so I just tossed a selfie on the top of this post instead. Basically I followed exactly none of the rules but I enjoyed answering the questions, lol…???

20 Questions Book Tag

I love a good book tag and when I saw the 20 Questions Book Tag on Stephen Writes, I knew I wanted to participate!

Hi 💗

20 Questions Book Tag

1. How many books are too many books in a series?

I would love to read Joanne Fluke’s Hannah Swensen series but there are 33 books in that series! I’m not sure how many books are too many books in a series but I DO KNOW that 33 is too many 🙂

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a good cliffhanger! Or as my 9 year old daughter calls them…”hangcliffs” 🙂

3. Hardback or Paperback?

Both. Paperbacks are so much easier to carry around but hardcovers are a million times easier to use with my favorite reading accessory.

4. Favourite book?

My answer to this question is constantly changing the more titles I read but THIS BOOK is hands down one of my favorite books I’ve ever read.

5. Least favourite book?

Landline by Rainbow Rowell. I really hated this book and I received SO MUCH backlash when I posted my negative review. I stand by my words! You can read my review HERE.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Eh. I don’t really have strong feelings either way. If it’s well written…sure?

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

The House in the Cerulean Sea. People LOVE this book! I just….couldn’t do it. Read my thoughts on why I stopped reading HERE.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

The Windfall by Diksha Basu. I absolutely loved it! Read my review HERE.

10. Oldest book you’ve read?

When I was in high school, this was my favorite book! So much so that I created an entire binder where I wrote down my thoughts on the characters, settings, plot, etc. (AKA a book blogger WAAAAAAY before that was even a thing) I will always have a copy of this classic book on my bookshelf 🙂

11. Newest book you’ve read?

I recently finished reading The Seven Day Switch by Kelly Harms last week. It isn’t being released until July so I would count that as a pretty new book, lol. I will have all of my thoughts posted alongside a review with Melissa Amster from Chick Lit Central closer to it’s release date 🙂

12. Favourite author?

Ahhh this is an ever changing answer…

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

I’m a Library Hero through and through!

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Ugh. People LOVE this book…I did not. You can read my thoughts HERE.

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Dog Ears. Every single time. Read why HERE.

16. A book you can always reread?

I’ve only done this twice. I reread Shanghai Girls (LOVE THAT BOOK….read my review HERE) in anticipation of the release of it’s squeal, Dreams of Joy. I reread the Shopaholic series (these books will forever hold a special place in my heart…read my review of them HERE) in anticipation of the movie release.

17. Can you read while listening to music?

HELL. NO.

18. One POV or multiple POVs?

If written in a way that isn’t confusing the the reader, I LOVE multiple POVs!

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Are you asking me this before I had 2 children or after? Because my answer is so dramatically different based upon that fact, lol.

20. Who do you tag?

Anyone who would like to participate! Tag me so I can read your answers 🙂

Happy Friday! I hope your weekend is filled with love and BOOKS!

Xo,

Jenny

The Festive Christmas Book Tag

Book Coffee Happy was tagged in The Festive Christmas Book Tag by The Reading Addict. Thank you so much for the tag! Although I’m Jewish I ABSOLUTELY LOVE CHRISTMAS and actually have Christmas music playing as I type this 🙂 This was a fun tag to complete even if I didn’t quite understand one of the questions, lol…

The Festive Christmas Book Tag was originally created by ReadingGirl on YouTube, and you can check out her video here.

I feel like this post deserves a nice Christmasy picture inserted here but since I clearly don’t have one…here’s my menorah, lol:

The Festive Christmas Book Tag:

1) A fictional family you would like to spend Christmas dinner with?

The Quinns! Oh how I miss them this time each year. I loved Elin Hildrebrand’s Winter series so much (read more about this wonderful holiday themed series and my review of it HERE). If you haven’t yet read the Winter series, this is the very BEST time of the year to read them!

2) A bookish item you would like to receive as a gift?

My husband actually bought me the cutest bookish item last week! How awesome is this candle???

LOVE!

3) A fictional character you think would make a perfect Christmas elf?

Ok…Jewish girl here. Help! An elf like one who helps to make the toys? Or like the Elf on the Shelf who does naughty things? I don’t really get it. I’m over here picturing Will Ferrell? So clearly I’m not sure how to answer this question? Please someone educate this Jew…???

4) Match a book to its perfect Christmas song.

Hmmm. Well I would have to assume that Mallory and Jack from 28 Summers would agree that “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” would fit them perfectly. Read my review of 28 Summers HERE.

5) Bah Humbug. A book or fictional character you’ve been disappointed in and should be put on the naughty list?

Landline by Rainbow Rowell. Truly one of the worst books I’ve ever read although somehow it WON The Goodreads Best Fiction Book of 2014?! Howwww?! I hated that book. I once wrote a blog post about it titled “One of the Worst Books I’ve Ever Read”. I got absolutely ripped apart on a Facebook book group for that post because it said such negative things and people got allll riled up saying that I shouldn’t have said them (insert eye roll here). I stand by my words…that was quite literally one of the very worst books I’ve ever read! Also, I will always give my honest opinion on the books that I read (and on everything else in life). You can read that (apparently) controversial blog post HERE.

6) A book or a fictional character you think deserves more love and appreciation and deserves to be put on the nice list?

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata! It’s such a quirky book but something about it totally sucked me in. I really loved that book! You can read it’s synopsis and my review HERE.

7) Red, Gold and Green. A book cover that has a wonderfully christmasy feel to it.

How beautiful is this book cover???

I took this book from a Little Free Library last year and have yet to read it. Maybe this year? If you know me at all, you know that I could only read a book like this during the holiday season! If I don’t read this book this month…it will sit on my bookshelf until December 2021.

8) A book or series you love so much, you want everyone to find under their Christmas tree this year so they can read it and love it too?

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. It’s so amazing! I LOVED IT. Everyone should read this book! Read it’s synopsis and my (glowing) review of it HERE. American Dirt was definitely included in my 12 Best Books I Read in 2020 list that I had posted earlier in the week. You can read that post and check out the other 11 books that I LOVED reading the most this year HERE.
