BLOGMAS: Books To Give As Gifts

BLOGMAS: Books To Give As Gifts

Hot Chocolate Cookies that I baked for a holiday party last week! Baked with hot chocolate mix, chocolate chips, and topped with melted marshmallows 🙂

I love that so many of you enjoyed yesterday’s post of the 13 Best Books I’ve Read in 2021! I so enjoyed coming up with that list and having a bit of time to reflect on my favorite reads from the past year. I clearly read some AMAZING books in 2021!

This is the time of year for gift giving and books make such beautiful gifts. Last week I received this message:

FYI the book I recommended to her was Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens 🙂

It got me thinking…what other books would make great gifts?

Buying someone a book can be a difficult task if you aren’t sure what they like to read. I’ve had people buy me books that I couldn’t WAIT to read and I’ve had people buy me books that I…definitely could 😉

Here in absolutely no particular order are books that I feel would make great gifts. Some are older, some are newer, all are WONDERFUL. I’m linking my previous posts about these books which will give you the book synopsis, my review, and a link to order the books! Hope this helps those of you still looking for the perfect gift this holiday season (or anytime).

Autumnal Book Blog Tag

Ooooh I do love a good book blog tag! As soon as I saw this one on A Little But Alot, I knew I wanted to participate! I absolutely LOVE autumn…LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Candles, pumpkins, scarves, creepiness, all of it! Today is the official first day of fall (!!!) so when is a better time to post this? HAPPY FALL, YA’LL!!!

The Autumnal Book Blog Tag

Are there any books you plan on reading over the autumn season?

OH YES. Snuggled under a warm blanket, coffee in hand, and with leaves falling around me. YES PLEASE. I have a bunch sitting here just waiting for me to read! I’ll keep you posted on titles as I read them!

September brings back to school memories: what book did you most enjoy studying? And what were your favourite and least favourite school subjects?

I absolutely LOVED reading The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger when I was in high school. I will always and forever have a copy of this book on my bookshelf!

Favorite Subject: Reading/Language Arts/English

Least Favorite Subject: Math

October means Halloween: do you enjoy scary books and films? If so what are some of your favourites?

YES! Scary books are AWESOME! HERE is a link to one that I absolutely loved reading. Highly recommend!

As for movies, I’m really not a big movie girl. Give me a book over a movie any day! However, I finally watched Hocus Pocus last year for the very first time (I know, I know) and I absolutely loved it. I’m thinking I might need to rewatch it each fall! So good!

With November it’s time for bonfire night and firework displays. What’s the most exciting book you’ve read that really kept you gripped?

I read THIS BOOK a few weeks ago and I was literally gripped from page 1. AWESOME BOOK. My heart is still pounding.

What book is your favourite cosy comfort read?

I VERY rarely reread books once I’ve read them. As far as favorite cozy comfort reads…I think just the ACT of reading is cozy and a comfort to me :).

Curled up with a good book, what is your hot drink of choice?

I mean, if you have ever read my blog AT ALL or even are just familiar my blog’s name….I really don’t need to answer this. Moving on…

Any plans you’re looking forward to over the next few months?

YES! Book Coffee Happy will be participating in Blogmas this year!

Whoo hoo!!!! I’ve been wanting to participate in this for 3 years and finally feel like I’m ready to commit! The definition of Blogmas according to Google:

MY HEART IS STILL POUNDING FROM READING THIS BOOK.

Hi 💙

Do I have a great book for you today! Holy hell. My poor heart may never be the same after reading! This book was HEART POUNDING. If you are looking for an INTENSE read, this is the book for you…

Goodreads Synopsis of Bath Haus {PJ Vernon}:

Oliver Park, a young recovering addict from Indiana, finally has everything he ever wanted: sobriety and a loving, wealthy partner in Nathan, a prominent DC trauma surgeon. Despite their difference in age and disparate backgrounds, they’ve made a perfect life together. With everything to lose, Oliver shouldn’t be visiting Haus, a gay bathhouse. But through the entrance he goes, and it’s a line crossed. Inside, he follows a man into a private room, and it’s the final line. Whatever happens next, Nathan can never know. But then, everything goes wrong, terribly wrong, and Oliver barely escapes with his life.

He races home in full-blown terror as the hand-shaped bruise grows dark on his neck. The truth will destroy Nathan and everything they have together, so Oliver does the thing he used to do so well: he lies.

What follows is a classic runaway-train narrative, full of the exquisite escalations, edge-of-your-seat thrills, and oh-my-god twists. P. J. Vernon’s Bath Haus is a scintillating thriller with an emotional punch, perfect for readers curious for their next must-read novel.

My Review of Bath Haus {PJ Vernon}:

My heart literally didn’t stop pounding while reading this book.

The first 100ish pages were GREAT. Intense, frightening, awesome. The second 100ish pages were…good. A bit long. But those last 100 pages??? Those last 100ish pages were AWESOME. Twisty, juicy, fantastic.

Some twists I saw coming, some I did NOT.

The writing was simply…beautiful. I was completely struck by how talented PJ Vernon is. The descriptions, the WORDS…all so beautifully written.

This book was an absolute nail biter for me pretty much throughout the entire time I was reading.

I’ve mentioned before how I like to research topics I read about. I always have to have my phone next to me so that I can research places, look up definations, etc. Well this book’s Google searches were VERY different from my usual Google searches. Let’s just say that the search history on my phone is now filled with some VERY descriptive gay sexual terms, positions, and so much more. Omg. I learned SO MUCH from this book about topics I never even knew existed, lol.

Bottom Line

AWESOME book!

Have you read this book? What did you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

What I’m Currently Reading (HEART POUNDING), What I Recently Read (Review ASAP), What I Think I’ll Read Next (Sounds Amazing)

I love when Book Coffee Happy can participate in WWW! The Three Ws: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

Thanks so much to Sam from Taking on a World of Words for hosting this fun weekly post!

I came across this gorgeous bookshelf while shopping today. How BEAUTIFUL are these books??

What Are You Currently Reading?

Omg this book. It’s so INTENSE! I’m almost done reading and I don’t think my poor heart will ever go back to beating calmly ever again. OMG.

Goodreads Synopsis of Bath Haus {P.J. Vernon}:

Oliver Park, a young recovering addict from Indiana, finally has everything he ever wanted: sobriety and a loving, wealthy partner in Nathan, a prominent DC trauma surgeon. Despite their difference in age and disparate backgrounds, they’ve made a perfect life together. With everything to lose, Oliver shouldn’t be visiting Haus, a gay bathhouse. What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

I’ll post my review of this one ASAP!

Goodreads Synopsis of The Wife Upstairs:

A delicious twist on a Gothic classic, Rachel Hawkins’s The Wife Upstairs pairs Southern charm with atmospheric domestic suspense, perfect for fans of B.A. Paris and Megan Miranda.

Meet Jane. Newly arrived to Birmingham, Alabama, Jane is a broke dog-walker in Thornfield Estates—a gated community full of McMansions, shiny SUVs, and bored housewives. The kind of place where no one will notice if Jane lifts the discarded tchotchkes and jewelry off the side tables of her well-heeled clients. Where no one will think to ask if Jane is her real name.

But her luck changes when she meets Eddie Rochester. Recently widowed, Eddie is Thornfield Estates’ most mysterious resident. His wife, Bea, drowned in a boating accident with her best friend, their bodies lost to the deep. Jane can’t help but see an opportunity in Eddie—not only is he rich, brooding, and handsome, he could also offer her the kind of protection she’s always yearned for.

Yet as Jane and Eddie fall for each other, Jane is increasingly haunted by the legend of Bea, an ambitious beauty with a rags-to-riches origin story, who launched a wildly successful southern lifestyle brand. How can she, plain Jane, ever measure up? And can she win Eddie’s heart before her past—or his—catches up to her?

With delicious suspense, incisive wit, and a fresh, feminist sensibility, The Wife Upstairs flips the script on a timeless tale of forbidden romance, ill-advised attraction, and a wife who just won’t stay buried. In this vivid reimagining of one of literature’s most twisted love triangles, which Mrs. Rochester will get her happy ending?

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

Goodreads Synopsis of Other People’s Children:

Gail and Jon Durbin moved to the Chicago suburbs to set up house as soon as Gail got pregnant. But then she miscarried—once, twice, three times. Determined to expand their family, the Durbins turn to adoption. When several adoptions fall through, Gail’s desire for a child overwhelms her.

Carli is a pregnant teenager from a blue-collar town nearby, with dreams of going to college and getting out of her mother’s home. When she makes the gut-wrenching decision to give her baby up for adoption, she chooses the Durbins. But Carli’s mother, Marla, has other plans for her grandbaby.

In Other People’s Children, three mothers make excruciating choices to protect their families and their dreams—choices that put them at decided odds against one another. You will root for each one of them and wonder just how far you’d go in the same situation. This riveting debut is a thoughtful exploration of love and family, and a heart-pounding page-turner you’ll find impossible to put down.

Have you read any of these 3 books? What did you think (no spoilers)? What are you currently reading? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
